    Hi,
Any of you from this group have varicose veins??
I have few bulgy varicose veins which is like knots near my calf and back of the knee. I have that for the last few years. Have many bulgy like knots.

I saw my primary care doctor last month and asked her about this if I need to get any surgeries. She said even if I get any surgery , it might come back. So she said I can do the surgery for aesthetics purposes.
I stopped wearing shorts or skirts and capris for the same reason. Just wearing full pants throughout the year. So I am not looking into surgery for aesthetics purpose. But I didn't get proper answers from the primary doctor though.

I have to find which specialist should I see to get this checked out.

Does anyone have varicose veins? Do you know anyone who treated this??

    Dear Gknew,
I know a few people who have it
There are specific exercises to keep this from agravating. You need to ask your doc. Probably because you are not in pain, or it is in the beginning stage, your doc did not advise anything.
    Speak to her again.

Yes. My parent has severe varicose veins and venous insufficiency.

What your PCP says about surgery is true. There is no guarantee that surgery will be 100% successful and the varicosities will not return.

However, varicose veins is a progressive disease. It will gradually worsen, develop venous ulcers that are very tough to heal, develop eruptions that may burst and bleed too. I'm saying this not to frighten you but to make you aware of what you are dealing with.

You need to start wearing a medical grade compression stockings at the earliest. Don't stand for long hours in once place. Elevate your legs when you sleep or sit .

See a Vascular surgeon to ask for other non surgical measures to cope with varicose veins and slow down it's progression.

    Take care.

Thank you. Mine is not in the beginning stage though. I have this bulgy knots for more than 8 years. Gradually increased and have around 13_14 knots bulgy spots in the calf area.
I was wearing a compression socks thigh high but it keeps rolling down and puts pressure on the knots which is more painful. I can't use knee length socks too. Dr advised me to get a thigh high ones. But that puts more pressure on the bulgy knots by rolling down.
The people whom you know who has varicose veins, did they do any surgery? Or managing these with exercises?

Thank you. I am aware of those complications and I am very very scared about it. I don't want to end up getting an ulcer or ruption of these bulgy varicose veins. I know that will put me in very dangerous situation. That's the only reason which worries me every single day and so stressful about this.

I did get an compression stockings (I am not sure what is medical grade). Dr advised me to get an thigh high ones and I bought one. That keeps rolling down and puts pressure on these knots which is very painful. I have these varicose veins for around 8 years. Started back in 2016-2017.
I got to know about the socks only later. Did use it for few days and it kept rolling down. So I stopped using it.
So my varicose veins hurts if I stand for a long time. I have to stand in the kitchen for everyday cooking for about 3-4 hours and I will have more pain end of the day.

I am just thinking about doing the surgery, but looking for some positive stories about the surgery. Also, I can't go to India for the surgery and have to do it in the US. So little scared to do it here what if it didn't go well. Couldn't find any stories about surgery experiences in the US. Looks like people in India doesn't opt for surgery too. I have to find how they all manage this without opting surgery.

You need to get yourself measured and order a correctly fitted stocking with the correct compression level as advised by the doctor. It wouldn't roll down unless your measurements are very disproportionate. In my parent's case, I measure the foot at home and order Mediven Comfort thigh high stockings 20-30mmHg pressure on ameswalker online. His stocking also rolls down because his thighs are skinny. So I get silicone body glue on the same website made specifically for this purpose for compression stockings. When I apply this, the stockings don't budge the whole day.

You definitely need to wear your compression stockings when you are standing to reduce pain. Also look at anti fatigue mats for kitchen floor.

It sucks big time to have varicose veins. Even as a caregiver I know it's very tough to manage this condition. It comes with experience as to what works and what doesn't. It's different for each individual.

I hope you are able to manage your condition effectively because you are young and have many years ahead of you.
