Do your inlaws or BIL/SIL send gifts to your kids? If so, what they send? Do you send gifts to your inlaws or SIL/BIL's kids? My kids don't receive anything from his side, but they expect gifs from my husband. I am a Sri Lankan Tamil origin married to an Indian, so my husband says this is how Indian family system works. Is he right?

Yes. We send and receive gifts without expectation. We adults might have difference of opinion but our (both inlaws as well as our own ) Children do receive wishes blessings gifts on their special occasions

My family works the same as you have mentioned above. I have accepted it for my peace of mind.

I do send gifts like toys. I don't have children but if I had I would expect my in laws to gift back. I think they would.

Don't spoil your peace of mind by knowing what happens in other families. You cannot pick and compare what you want . Honestly this is not even a correct way of fixing your problem. How much are the cost of the gifts ? If it is not much leave it. If it substantial amount like gold and diamonds then please try to discuss with husband if it is negotiable. Do you work ?

A lot of people are like that. In the name of traditions, in laws keep receiving without giving. But it's balanced by gifts from parents side. Which in my opinion is not right. But I've seen and experienced that.
I think giving or receiving gifts is totally up to the sender. If you feel like gifting loved ones on special occasion, then that has to be it. The joy of giving. If it's done with anger or expectations of receiving back there is no point.

Sorry for my late reply. That day I was super mad because nobody called from his side to wish my three years on her birthday. We don't use WhatsApp, and they are not ready to spend a few rupees to make a call. Anyway, there is no point to expect anything from them.
    Thanks for your responses
