    Looks like burning chillies is the most popular method. I have to figure out a way to see how to get the chillies burn (mine is an electric stove)...

    yes, although it may sound silly, i do believe in drishti.
    at first you may not believe, but when you experience it, only then will you beleive it.

    it has happened with me several times, somtimes the damage has been small and sometimes very very bad.

    the worst was 5 years back, when my parents had a grand celebration for the house warming ceremony of their new bunglow in india.
    they invited so many people, and the celebration was just like a wedding.
    just after that they started experiencing many set backs in their business.by now they have lost alot of money in business, and sadly holdly such a grand function again even for my or my brother's wedding is only a dream for us.

    how i wish we hadn't done it that way, and only kept a small function for family and friends.

    Do you have an earthen pot? I have seen people burning dried chillies in the earthen pot with camphor. Incidentally, for Goddess Pratyangira homa, dried chillies are used mostly as offerings and it is well known that Goddess Pratyangira removes withcraft/evil eyes (dristi) and what not.

    According to my son's horoscope he was asked to do so till the age of 3.But now my son is 6 and still my MIL ties the thread around his waist.
    I dont about boys but in our culture girls wear waistlets throughout their lives to maintain the shape around waist.So dont know if it has that kind of significance for boys too.:)
    Now ILites i dont want you all to think that we are propogating superstition here....we are just discussing different cultures .:)

    @Rakhii,
    I wonder many a times whether to beliv it all or not. But I don't experiment this with my son. MY inlaw's do this procedure of taking off Drishti with camphor. My mother used to do it with " mustard seeds + red chilly + salt" all in a paper and finally burn it. If Drishti is there it will smell bad. Else normal smell of these items burning.

    I am a believer and do warding off the evil eye for my DS if he is not well.
    And also, I say some facts like my DS is naughty or not eating well , when someone praise him.
    I think their dristi won't affect them once we say something like that. Anyone have such experience?

    @rakhii This is how I did it once: shaped aluminium foil like a bowl. Added the chillies/camphor thing. Kept the so-called-bowl over the stove and allowed it to burn. Took a while but neverthless it kinda worked.
