Rakhi I do it with cotton wicks and mustard oil. Dip the wick in mustard oil-- hold it in your hand and touch it to forehead of the baby then touch feet in a straight line-- repeat 7 times then hold the wick with something like a Chimta and burn it. The wick will drip fire as it burns and you can smell (bad smell).

just adding one more thing about nazar , I feel that I know who is putting nazar on us most of the time, it is like a tense feeling I get when I am around certain people..It is hard to explain I can sort of sense when people are jealous.... I am not saying that people in my house are awesome and we have so much to be jealous of , but it's like when I have a friend or an mutual friend of someone I do not know well starts comparing themselves to me i hope I got my point across does anyone else get that feeling?

@rakhii I have customized the procedure (basedon grandma's advice) to suit the living style here:

Take rock salt in your right hand fist. The amount of rock salt you take is proportional to the amount of dhristhi you are trying to ward off. 3 clockwise rounds. 3 anti clockwise rounds. Immediately put the rock salt in flowing water. Usually I open the kitchen sink tap in full force and drop the salt.

in our native (i dono if it is done anywhere else... never been to such a festival anywhere else)... i hope everyone knows what is a carfestival at temple means!! during that festival... they burn cloth (and i have heard elders say... taking dristi of GOD!).... when they do for GOD why not people????

secondly... few months back one of my cousin who is married into a very religious family (mentioning this... because all of the family will know when she is having "those three-four days" as puja/prayer is done by her regularly at home as is their tradition and those days she doesnt (so everyone knows when!)... she missed her periods one month and they guessed she is pregnant... happy time celebration time etc... but suddenly one night... she lost the baby (miscarriage).... she is so young she didnt even find out until they scanned her at hospital (she was taken to ER when found she was bleeding heavily!)... elders say its dristi... as she was newly married and because everyone in the family knew about her pregnancy before those "careful" three months!

    Hi everyone!!

Any idea why some tie a thick black or red thread around the babies waist?
When should this thread be removed?

    Hi,

Since sadwife mentioned about black threads. Sometimes the black thread comes off even after tying two to three knots. Why does that happen? Does it mean that "buri nazar" lagi hain?

I believe in positive/negative energy...when people bad-mouthed/thought about us, it might affect us..that energy would make us down...

But the simple solution, I follow is, be positive always..always have a positive thinking and it would make a positive ring around us, that would protect us from the 'bad-eyes' or whatsoever...just my 2 cents...

I don't believe in Nazaar & refused to put black tikka on my both kids............yes ,they did crya lot (as babies do) & yes, talking them to malls or family function made them even more cranky but there is always rational explanation to that like seeing so many strangers make a child anxious, sometimes when we ourself are stressed (like in IL house) the child feels our stress & expresses it with crying...........

still as mother one is justifiled in doing whatever one has to do to bring comfort to our babies & if that means putting tikka or tying holy thread then so be it.............me ,i believe in prayer & would always pray to God to protect my kids(it works for me & gives me calmness)

here in SA I see many babies with amber necklace Amber teething necklaces: Do they work? | BabyCenter Blog maybe this can also be tried when kids are teething

I strongly believe in the concept of drishti. There is a scientific explanation too...
The life force or the Prana, flows around us in the form of aura. There are four layers of aura that flows around our body; they are Physical aura, mental aura, emotional aura and spiritual aura. When the flow is blocked, disturbed or restricted by the negative energy, it causes ill-effects. This aura can be disturbed by the acceptance of the negative emotions and thoughts whether consciously or unconsciously. Our body is believed to be resting 7 main chakras which are positioned along the central line of the back and front of our body. This chakra spins and swirls with the energy that flows around us. This chakra creates a flow of energy between our physical, emotional and spiritual levels. When certain part of the body is ill or any organ dysfunction, it is because the chakra in that particular position is affected by the negative flow of energy.

When people direct their negative thought patterns to us, invariably our physical aura attracts that negative energy and starts to attract negative happenings in our life.
