Yes, I believe in dristi/nazar. I have read a lot of remedies to remove it but I don't really practice it. For children, its normal to put a black dot on the forehead to remove dristhi. Even for any good auspicious occasions, like marriage, certain procedures are done to remove dristi (bad eyes) on the newly wedded couple. There's also a trend that to give sweet food to people around you when telling good news so that only good things will be said by them.

    Hi all

    Just a thought on mind

It is very known fact that Aarthi is being taken to married couples at the time of marriage...
Hope all would have experienced this?

Is this not one way of removal of evil eyes ????

Confirm whatz the significance of this with your elders and revert back pls

don't you think even the evil eyes methods are done don't we see everybody is undergoing whats destined for???
Does this concept really applicable when karma concept is there?? will these eyes really change or create issue. It might be a coincidence in certain circumstances. If this concept applies then everywhere everybody should have hitting on things on above said issues should happen always.

Rakhii: No matter what people think of me (old school, stupid thinking or beliefs) , I do accept that I strongly believe in Drishti and Nazar as far as my DD or my DH goes. I used to put that black dot till say 7 months and then stopped but I do Nazar utarna atlease once a week if not alternate days. I definitely believe in it as I also had some experiences like you. It may or may not be related but when it comes to DD or DH i dont take chance ever..I definitely see the difference after I do Nazar utarna. Again it may or may not be related but I beleive it is because of all the drishti it happened.. I might sound old school but this who I am :)

I do believe it a lot regarding to kids as elders say when some people see its not good...

whenever I feed my son I take the drishti out with the same bowl, and also when I give him bath.. when he was small after bath we use to put small bindi on his one side of forehead as it gave him little rash we stop and started keeping it on sole of foot. right now nothing but I do prefer to take drishti away after he eat food its a must and should... and also elders say. looking at kid for a long time make kids fall sicks. I use to look at my son when he was playing, sleeping my mom use to yell at me.. I don't know how many of you believe this but I do..

Its not good to feed kids before some people.. I did experience that.. I try to avoid doing that but sometimes we cant help it when the kid is hungry.we can only pray for our little love..

Yes, I have seen aarti numerous times especially when the married couple returns back home. Reason to remove evil eyes. This was the procedure which I was explaining in my above post.

First of all, I apologize for the delay in reply. I wanted to make sure I address everyone, so this delay.

@desigirl, I am sorry to hear that your dream home is not yet realizing. It will soon. Glad to see that you also believe in this concept of drishti. Next time, don’t tell anything to anyone until the good deed is done for.

@Swamy, thanks for your input. We did perform a namakaranam for my DD on her 10th day (well, it was supposed to be 12th but my father in law insisted on 10th; , it was on Sunday). Anyway, we had done that. We called 2 pujari’s who came home and did this for my DD.
I would greatly appreciate if you can share any puja/procedure I can do on a daily basis or on the days I expose my DD to many people.
Yes, aarti at the end of any ceremony is done to remove the drishti.

@Zina, I am the same like you. I get all logical when she is hale and healthy. However, the day she falls sick, it invariably happens to be soon after some compliment to her.

@Ramya, may I know what procedure you use to ward off the evil eye? I would greatly appreciate if you could share. I don’t know how to do it. I mean, I do know that we use salt method but don’t know how many rotations, which side to start with, where to throw that salt etc.

@Deepika, I used to do that kajal on her forehead until she turned 1 year and then left it.

@Luckysangeetha, thanks for a different perspective.

@Dinny, you echoed my mind. I also don’t/didn’t want to believe in this. But how is it possible that every single time, invariably something bad happens when she gets praises.

@Shanvy, thanks for stopping by. You explained this scientifically too! Thanks for that. Shanvy, this adding of salt in water, can I use it for my LO too? I already use eucalyptus oil in her water, is it OK to use salt like this?

@Ammani, I hear ya! It indeed is drishti.

@DGcreative, thanks for sharing your experiences. Can you please share the procedure your mom does with the ump of rice? I need to know, which way to turn too (like clock or anti-clock.

    @Ooviya, thanks for sharing this.

@Karanu, Can you please share with me the mustard seed method of removing drishti? Same thing with my neighbor. By nature she is such a sweetheart. She woud never ever mean any harm to my LO and I know that. Still, the moment she complements something, bad thing is bound to happen. Unbelievable you know…just yesterday this thing has happened. My DD sleeps at 7:30 PM. She came at about 6 PM…stayed for sometime and said, how lucky am I that my DD is properly sleep trained; needless to say yesterday my DD fought sleep like never before and slept at 10:30 PM…I know, no harm done but look at the co-incidence?

@Katochsimi, its so nice of your DH to remove this nazar for you.

@rmpriya…avoid taking her calls now please L

    @dave, thanks for stopping by.

@Chitra, I also will fall in your school. Actually, we both would be same class lol. I also think, when it comes to LO’s safety we can never ever be ‘over-doing’ anything at all. Can you please share which way you follow for this nazar?

@Breeze, yes, I also do a quick 3 rounds with my LO’s plate after dinner. I also try to avoid feeding in front of others but the day it happen’s, usually she falls sick or vomits. I make my own kaajal for my LO at home with sandalwood paste. Well, I used it until she was an year old. Since its homemade kaajal, no side effects or rashes.

Your above post is lengthy. so i get to post a lengthy resposne too Rakhi. Wokay?

    1) First :biggrin2: ....

    2) Take a white piece of cotton cloth...(Peoples use my shirts/kurta  for these purposes).

    3) the hold the cloth in your right hand and touch the perosns body with that cloth front back sides top feet. move ur hand in vertical circleular motion. all the while sayign 'thu thu thu'

    4) throw the cloth on the floor and ask the person to stamp on it with feet.

    5) then hold the cloth out and ask the perosn to say 'thu thu on the cloth' - spit .

    6) Now, set this cloth on fire. (in Indi mom would hold this burning cloth in hand yeah she is an alien :crazy and makes circles evrticzl moves it all around the body) ..... .......then throw it down.

    7) if you smell cloth burnign smell, then there is no Dishti.
if you cant smell anything - then there is Dishti..eveil eyes were cast upon the child and thats being burned to ashes in th efire. Make sure whole cloth is burned into ashes.

    8) Then with your thumb finger on right foot, touch the blackend ashes. Black color sticks to your thumb.then with finger, put it on person';s forehead, stomach, some hand (palm) i dont know which one, underpart feet ... and throw the ashes away.

    9) Child or the adult whoever it is will feel wonderful right away.

Proof: when you burn a cloth, you can smell it. but why is that a sometimes a cloth burning doesnt give out any smell? tell tell? why why why? tells somethign. noh?

all in all...it gives you a wonderful feeling. sounds interesting...

if people dont beleive itn it...no harm.....stay calm, bear the misery for soemtime till the medicine you took activzaates.

if you do beleeiev in it.....then you can actually see (in ur mind) , that when they are making rounds with their hand around you with the cloth and burnging cloth...you can see in mind layers of osmethign (dusty masks or somethign) off the face being attracted to the cloth like a magnet.......and you feel light after they do that. warm, cool,. it feels nice. wait catchign ur breth till they light up the cloth to se eif there is smell or not. and the joy you get twhen the doer declares seriosly."see...ther eis no smell...poor kid ....dishti tglindi" ..........and when there is no smell..........after the tikka ceremony .you get loads of pampering. You will be taken to bed or sofa..make you lie down and cover a blanket slolwy softly over you and king like trtmt till you fall asleep :D so i like to beleive int hese.

baaaaaaaa i can make even a single point extend to pages ..volumes. You can now guess how i passed with distinction from Madras Univ :bonk

I use to be a non-believer but once I had kids and saw it happening I turned into a believer. It could be my mother heart which is making me believe in it but I do!! When my son was younger he was a cutie and he would get "nazar" when ever someone will praise him or admire his big beautiful eyes. For sure he will cry & be restless , not eat, tummy aches and on & on. My other wise very happy Lo will be miserable. Than my mom taught me to do the procedure to take "nazar" off and just like that he will be fine. Same thing with my daughter.
