do lactating mothers become pregnant

hi ,
I am a mother of a 15 month kid n still feeding her.

this month my cycle is late by 5 days(every month it used be on the expected day i.e., 28th daY). (had itercourse on 17th day)

i jus heard that there r lesser chances 4 lactating mothers 2 become pregnant. is that true?:hiya

iam worried if i aM pregnant!! bonk

if this is not the proper forum to post this thread, moderators please help me out.

Hi

The possibility is definitely there because you dont stop ovulating when you are breastfeeding. YOu have to use contraceptives suitable for breastfeeding if you do not want to conceive.

Hi Siri,

I have heard otherwise. After delivery once you get your periods those are most fertile days. Lactation has nothing to do with pregnancy. Once you get your periods there a chances that you may get pregnant too.

You can still wait for sometime and then have a pregnancy test to confirm the same.

yes,they can.once u start having periods after delivery u can get preg.

Hi Siri,

I don't usually comment in this forum as I wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about. But I took a second look at your question because I have a friend in your exact same position. She has a baby a little over 1 year old and is still breast feeding her. My friend assumed there was little or no chance of getting pregnant while breast feeding so didn't use the standard precautions. Now she is pregnant with baby #2. So definitley pregnancy is possible. To know for certain why not take a home pregnancy test?

Tell that to my now 2.5 year old son, he has no business being here then! :rotflIt depends on your luteal cycle, I am told.
Lactational amenorrhea is the only safe period. Once you start your periods, you are at as much risk as a non-breastfeeding woman. Some women do tend to have longer protection from pregnancy due to bfing, but that seems to depend on your hormone levels.
Unless you are charting BBT or using an OPK or you know when exactly you ovulate, it is difficult to pin point your fertile period. I too think a home pregnancy test is in order.
