After winning the Twenty20 World Cup and beating the Aussies in a tri-series, Mahi is trying a masterstroke. At a ripe 26, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has turned his focus to academics.

Building on his reputation as a ‘finisher’ in ODIs, India’s cricket captain is attending to some unfinished business—a graduation degree.

St Xavier’s College Principal Nicholas Tete confirmed that Dhoni is seeking admission in the institute through the sports quota.

It is in this connection that he met Ranchi University Sports Director Jai Kumar Sinha . “He has expressed a wish to pursue B.Com from our college. But he’ll have problems attending classes both owing to his cricket engagements as well as his star status. We’ll need to complete other formalities including the University’s permission,” said Tete.

The principal’s fears don’t appear unfounded as the local hero, chief guest at the finals of the Inter-Class Canvass Ball Cricket Tournament in the college, created a mini-stampede when hundreds of students surrounded him on Wednesday.

Since the time he set foot in Ranchi, every move that Dhoni makes has been making headlines—from naming the daughter of a former Minister, to riding his Harley past security to meet a schoolmate, or even buying shoes for football players.

A Commerce degree may help him manage the millions he will make from the IPL. And, perhaps, decipher the number of zeroes in the next cheque which comes his way, till the euphoria of India’s victory over Australia lasts. A bachelor’s degree may also make the hearthrob of millions the most eligible bachelor among the Men in Blue.

Seems to be funny. Isn’t it? But this is true. Indian Cricket Team Caption Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now making news sensational with regard to his academic arena. Normally so many rumors and gossips used to arouse in the life of celebrities. But Dhoni’s move to urge Graduation is already confirmed by St Xavier’s College Principal Nicholas Tete. India’s limited overs cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is keen to acquire a graduation degree despite his demanding career and busy calender.

Dhoni met the Principal of St Xaviers College, Nicholas Tete on Wednesday and expressed his desire to complete B Com from the institution.

“Yes, he is keen to complete his graduation in commerce.

Once Dhoni formally submits an application, the college will start the process,” Tete said in Ranchi on Thursday.

He said the college, being an autonomous body, would have to seek guidance from its Chancellor and the University Grants Commission (UDC) on the mode of education to be applied for Dhoni.

“Since he has a busy schedule, there will be a problem for him to attend classes regularly. Maybe, the distant education mode could suit him.

“In this mode he has to submit assignment papers and other related things,” Tete said.

Dhoni had completed class XII from a DAV School in Ranchi.

In 2006, the then Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Pradip Kumar had said that Dhoni would lead the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan to help enroll students at the primary level, but Dhoni could not turn up as the official communication never reached him.

However, now Dhoni’s academic interest has made the students of the college euphoric.

“We are excited after learning that he will be among us.

This will not only help his academic career but also inspire the students not to take education lightly,” said Sourav Roy, third-year student of the college’s mass communication department.
