    hi ilites,

Devi Worship, worship of a female deity. It is a tradition known to have existed since pre-historic times and continues today.

Devi worship or Durga Puja is the adoration of the Divine Mother of all things, who bears the seed of the Universe in Her imperishable womb, the Mahad-Brahma.

The ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians worshiped several female deities, including goddesses symbolizing fertility, wisdom, hunting, and the safety of the nation and its people.

In Hinduism, every deity is accompanied by a female counterpart, or goddess. These pairs include Parvati-Siva, Lakshmi-Vishnu, Sita-Rama and Radha-Krishna. Many temples are dedicated first to the goddess, who represents the merciful, loving side of the deity.

While some forms of Devi worship are common throughout India, others are regional. Worship of forms such as Draupadi, heroine of the Mahabharata and Radha, beloved of Krishna, are restricted to specific geographical locations. Temples and festivals for Draupadi are found in south India, while Radha is celebrated in the north.

Let us all recall the names of Devi and the temples related. It may be individual Devi names, consort names or as a group for example Ashta-Lakshmi temple in Beasant Nagar, Chennai.

I start with Mylai beauty - Kapaleeswarar Samedha Sri Karpagambal. Temple - Mylai Kapaleeswarar Temple (Mylapore, Chennai)

Maha Prathiyangara Devi, Sollinganallur, on the way from Chennai to Pondicherry on ECR ROAD.

Puranas say different ways of origination of Maha Prathiyangara Devi. Some say that Prathiyangara Devi emerged out from the third eye of Sarabheswarar (manifestation of Lord Shiva) with 1,008 lion faces , 2,016 hands and a blood-stained tongue protruding out. She helped to reduce the ferocity of Lord Narashima.

While the other say that when all the Gods were helpless to pacify Lord Narashima , the three Goddess Parvathi Devi ,Saraswathi Devi and Lakshmi Devi created Prathiyangara Devi and sent to fierceful Lord Narashima, who was destroying the whole world after he extinguished the Demon King Hiraniyakasipu. When Prathiyangara Devi sat on Lord Narashima´s thigh he was calmed down.

Some believe that in ancient time when two rishis, Prathiyangara and Angiras ,were meditating discovered a goddess through a Moola Mantram who was nameless. Later she privileged the rishis by naming her after them and hence she was called as Prathiyangara Devi.

Narasimhika is her another name. ´Naran´ means human and ´Simha´ means Lion, so she appears with Lion´s face and human body.It is also said that she has destroyed the arrogance of the Shiva´s ugra avatar ´Sarabhewarar´. It is believed that when Narashimhika shakes her mane, she shambles the stars in the universe.

Prathiyangara Devi is considered to be a powerful repellent of the influences generated by witch-craft. In Sri Cakra worship, she protects her devotees against all odds and guides them along the right path. She is enveloped as bliss in the letter "Ksham".

Shri Lakshmi Narayani Peedam in Sripuram, Vellore.

This is the Golden Temple of South.

More than 400 gold and coppersmiths from the Thirupath Thirumala Devasthanam are said to have worked for six years to craft the Rs 600-crore gold temple located on 55,000 sq ft of land on a 100-acre salubrious stretch in Malaikodi, about 6 km from Vellore in north Tamil Nadu. According to official sources, the gold bars were purchased through RBI in "a transparent manner."
