The next time you make an appointment for check-up at the Corniche Hospital, ask for appointment with the midwife instead of Doctor. If there'e nothing abnormal, they will allow you to see the midwife.

Everybody has a good feedback about Corniche Hospital,
Let me add some of my feedback.

I was not happy with Corniche Hospital, the reasons being, when I was in my labour and the labor kept prolonging with contractions reducing, the midwife was very hesitanat to call the doctor, resulting in my baby to be in distress and I had to be rushed for a C-Section. So much so that my parents and my husband were in tears when they said we cannot say anything about the mother and baby now and my husband complained to the labor ward incharge. I guess it was the midwife's mistake.
I must appreciate though the operation theatres were ready and all the staff/ equipment well prepared to handle any emergencies. it was just the midwife's careless attitude that bothered us, she was Scottish.

The nurses in the wards were severly over-worked and they had absolutely no time to attend to us, since it was my first delivery I also did not know anything. With nobody in the ward me all alone with my son it was a difficult time for me.
the doctors who come to do the rounds are so busy they do not have any time to talk to you..
the doctors are Indians,Pakistanis or Arabs...
On the day of my discharge none of the doctors told me its time to go..

I don't think there are any perfect hospitals here....,
it all comes down to the staff attitudes, doctors, infrastructure...
i have heard good feedback only about Al Ahalia, but i don't like that hospital, i had seen cockroaches there.

corniche Hospital is well equipped to handle all emergencies,
but the staff there is too overworked and attitudes of some staff also...

    hi ruhanee ,

thank you for dropping in ...

i too heard from few people about the care given to baby and mother after delivery being unsatisfactory .so much so that they dont attend to a baby who is crying and we would have to do this ourselves as they dont allow bystanders at night .

now that it is a govt hospital , personal attention cannot be expected .
but due to the good facilities and the fact that emergencies from other hospitals are finally referred to corniche hospital .. it would be safe to opt for that , moreover because i had a c section before .
anyways hoping for the best .

i found this on another website and thought it would be helpful to all ...

Questions & Answers About The Corniche Hospital

Is it true that at the Corniche there is about 30 births a day? ........
Approx 12,00 a year so yes about 32ish a day

Will I need to see a doctor or a midwife? .....
A midwife for most people except those with medical problems, if in doubt book with the midwife for the 1st appointment and she will tell you if you need to see the doctors

How far along do I need to be to open a file?....
    anytime after 8 weeks

Which papers do I need to open a file?...
passport and visa copies for you and dh, plus marriage certificate

Can I go see a private doctor and come to the Corniche only when its time to give birth?...
you can see a private doctor but need to come to Corniche by 34 weeks to have a booking and bloods and a scan

What insurance does the hospital take?...
direct billing is only Thiqa and Daman, all other insurances you bring you reclaim forms and get reimbursed when you send them the receipts as long as your insurance covers maternity

What if I don't have insurance, will they take me anyway?...
yes you can pay yourself for treatment

Is it true that you have to wait hours for your scheduled appointments?...
only if it is with the doctors, not the midwives :) it can be a long wait for a scan as they are very busy!

Will I have to get an ultrasound every appointment?...
NO and you shouldn't have this done elsewhere. A scan at around 11 weeks and 20 weeks should be done and then sometimes around 34-36 weeks

Can my husband be present if I have to have a scan?...
    definitely

    Can I get a 3D scan? ....
Yes and they will print you pictures if you ask

    Are there only female doctors?...
there is one male consultant and one male physician the rest are female

Will my husband be allowed in the delivery room for a natural birth?.....
yes, you are allowed 2 people with you throughout labour

Will my husband be allowed in the delivery room for a planned C-section?.....
if it is an emergency no because you will be given a general anaesthetic and no one is allowed in. If not an emergency then hospital policy is yes he can come in

When, at what time or under what circumstances will my husband not be allowed in the delivery room?...
should be no time this happens

What if I need to have an emergency c-section, can my husband be with me?...
depends on what sort of emergency so difficult to say

Will I be able to get an epidural? ...
yes except in a few circumstances such as the anesthetist have more than one emergency so are called away or there is a shortage of staff on labour ward so would be unsafe as you need someone with you all of the time if you have one

What if its the middle of the night, can I get an epidural?...
yes there is 24 hour anesthetist cover

Can my husband stay with me all night?...
if you are in labour, yes but on the wards no the visiting ends at 10pm

How many family members can be in the delivery room with me?......2

    Are there any private rooms?...
only if you are a local :) and then you need a VIP letter, this only guarantees a private room if there are any.

If I need to share a room, how many people per room?......
    two

How many nights will I have to stay at the hospital?....
    A normal delivery is 2 a section is 4 or 5

What are visiting hours?...6am -10pm for husbands 12pm to 10pm other visitors

Does the hospital provide pads, soap, towel, gowns etc in the rooms?....
pads, nappies and cotton wool provided only

    Is there a lactation specialist?....
there are many and they are fabulous!

What if there is a problem with my baby, is the hospital well equipped in terms of NICU?...
it has the best NICU around and babies are transferred here from many other hospitals

Is there a fertility clinic at the hospital? ...
there is, opening a file is the same process

What other specialists are available at the hospital?.....
dietitians, physio, diabetic midwives, physicians, VIP, dentist...err probably more but thats all i can think of right now
