You can take a Delhi Darshan bus trip for the day , they will show you all the famous sites of Delhi in a systematic manner. Dont miss the RedFort, Humayuns Tomb, Qutub Minar and a trip in the Metro !
Hi Ami Congrats on your Delhi trip plan. I have lived in Delhi and recently visited in Apri and July last. Other than visiting Agra enroute Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort on the way to Taj Mahal and on return you can visit Madura Temple and back to Delhi in one day. If you visit Taj Mahal on Friday, the entrance is free. If you remove the footwear, they will provide a cloth slippers which you can wear inside to protect from heat. There are lots of shopping also there in Agra. Delhi - Places to visit 1. Noida - Film City 2. Akshardam (you can combine 1 & 2 in about 1/2 day) - INSIDE AKSHARDAM, NOT EVEN HAND BAGS OR WALLETS/PURSES ARE ALLOWED. YOU HAVE TO DEPOSIT EVERYTHING IN THE COUNTER AND TAKE A RECEIPT. NO MOBILE, CAMERA DIGI OR CAM OR ANYTHING. 3. Mahatma Gandhi and Sakthi sthal memorials 4. Parliament house, Shanti path, Vijay Path, India Gate, Boat Club, Rashtrapathi Bhavan, South Block, North Block, Jantar mantar, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Teen Murti Bhavan (Nehru Memorial Museum), Chanakyapuri (the embassy area), Birla Mandir etc. (All these you can cover in one shot) 5. Qutub Minar, Chhatarpur Temple (very unique and very auspicious temple), Lotus temple (Temple of Bahais), Hauz Khas (shopping experience) etc. you can cover in one shot. 6. Red Fort and Jama Masjid in Old Delhi (1/2 day)- Take care of your belongings when you visit Old Delhi area 7. There are many tombs, Humayun, Safdarjung etc. Also there is PURANA QUILA, a very huge fort. (these tombs - no need to go inside, you can just do a kind of window visit thru the car from outside only) 7. Shopping and visit : Janpath, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Khan Market, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, INA Market, SAROJINI Market etc. Janpath has complete emporiums of all states selling their handicrafts and artefacts. 8. RK Puram has beautiful Malaya Mandir (Murugan temple on a hillock) and Iyyappan Temple. Mayur Vihar has Guruvayurappan temple. 9. Tihar Jail... From outside ofcourse :biglaugh: - you can see the watch post and beam light erected on all 4 sides at a height. 10. Last, but not the least a travel by Delhi Metro and to GURGAON, the satellite city in Haryana very close to New Delhi. (If I am right, Palika Bazar is already closed, nonetheless, it is a BIG NO NO, to visit them. The quality of stuff is not good and not safe). Eatables - must 1. Alu Tikki with Chana 2. Hot Gilebis 3. Kulfi Faluda 4. Rusk 5. Made to order Biscuits 6. Fruit chat / Alu chat (garam garam) 7. On set of winter, there will be chikki sold in many varieties (Till cake and bars, mixed nuts bar, ground nut bar etc) in carts. Every Delhite enjoy eating them during winter. 8. Delhi is famous for Milk Sweets. They are available very very cheap in comparison with Bombay or South. Many Aggarwals Sweet shops are there, they are good. NATHU sweets is very famous. You can buy from there. Also a visit to NIRULA's Bakery and have their Pizza, its good. You get nice CASATTA ice cream in Connaught Circus in Standard Bakery. Attire You can take jeans with many tops and a jacket or wind cheater with stole should be enough. If you wear salwar, take non-cotton type and sweater with shawl should be fine. But you can buy from Delhi only. In Karol Bagh there are plenty of shops selling, also on the roads in pavement shops. Please bargain from less than 1/2 the price quoted. You dont have to buy if you dont have already. Normally Delhiites buy atleast 1 or 2 new woolen wear every winter or matching to their dress. I had shawls /sweaters in many colors matching to my silk sarees. Footwear A good canvas with socks and a slip-on or a floater. Conclusion I hope I have covered the whole info. Good luck to you for a safe and enjoyable journey. Best Regards Shanti
