    • Death is a failure of science.
    • Let us accept it. Science has many credits to its success, and stopping death is not one of them.

Many efforts have been made to increase the average life span and delay death with success, victory over death is not one of them.

It is not known if God can stop death and for that matter if there is God.

No one knows what happens after death.

So, start preparing for it in the second half of life. We are the best judge of the second half of life.

Our mythology does talk about revival of the dead as in the case of Satyavan and Savithri. There are other stories too. Greek mythology has it's own share of stories of reviving the dead.
I often visit an old age home nearby where most of the inmates are beyond 80 with frail health. The first question they ask is when will death release them from their sufferings. And less said about the suicide prone the better.

    Dear Hari Sir,

Science is an infant teething and learning how to walk in a universe that is so vast learning one thing at a time. This Universe is an unsolved mystery and science is still looking at the evidences trying to figure out how it happened. Even existence of life required so many conditions to remain with zero tolerance for life to be created and sustained. Everything we think, see, speak, feel, touch, and act are all temporary and perishable and so is the casings of life. We give so much importance to the gift wrapper more than the gift itself. We fail to see the love behind this gift.

I am a big fan of science and not against science but it has a long way to go. Albert Einstein and Neils Bohr tried to derive a mathmatical equation to determine how the universe was created and functioning but realized it is beyond human comprehension. Milky way galaxy and Andromeda galaxy are likely to merge in 4 billion years and this is just a prediction based on how these galaxies are moving more than determination with mathematical accuracy. That might be extinction of lives as it exists today and creation of new lives with different mass and until then life will journey through many bodies from time to time.

Dear Hariji! I think as long as we have the science 'eye' we can't avoid death. It deals with matter always and matter is such, we all know, that it is subject to change and destruction.

It is sad that they feel that way wherein life itself has become a burden. Our vedic scriptures speak of 'no birth and death' too. Now Though science is necessary, even vital for our practical existence it doesn't answer something beyond our ordinary perception. At present science is to researching about consciousness after the origin of the universe, still, yet to come to any conclusion. Unlike the scriptures , pronouncing propagating , upholding. the one and the same truth till now, that is, I am the one truth and I dont have birth and death. It has a twist but the same scriptures provide the means also understand and assimilate it. Till we stumble upon that we have suffering.

My connection with science is as distant as the light years in the galaxy.. but I have been curious to read about the experiments & research that goes into the origin of universe and the consciousness theory etc of science. Waiting still to find, since the subsequent theories improve upon or negate the previous ones. Is there any conclusion ?

I recall the words of Adi Shankara from his immortal Baja Govindam which translates to :
Undergoing the pangs of birth again and again, passing through the throes of death again and again, lying in the mother’s womb over and over again, this process of Samsara is hard to cross over. Save me from it soon, Oh, Merciful Lord!

There is no point in prolonging life by artificial means and in the process suffer a poor quality of life. Most of the seniors including yours faithfully are not scared of death but the question haunting them is how. Recently my Doctor told me that 4 seniors who are 80+ are bed ridden for the last three years. Mr,Giri, living in our block who is senior to me by three months is wheel chair bound for 3 years ,suffers from Parkinson and Dementia. He has to be fed and he could not recognise me. Is this life worth living?. People are scared of fixing marriages as they have to call them off at great cost in case something happens to him. To be blunt they are waiting for his peaceful exit .God is guilty of procrastrination. It looks as if the issue is under discussion before the Joint Parlimentary Commitee on entry and exit.

I have also come across some I know who stayed bedridden for years. It is easy to understand the situation the sick and the family members are going through.
I read an article about Bryan Johnson trying to outwit death.
No one wants to die. The point, therefore, is to be ready to face it. We have heard of retirement funds and other things that help in taking care of day-to-day needs. This may not be enough.
I am in favour of making euthanasia legal with the help of palliative care.
