    • The Cauvery River water, the iron dosa stone that heats it, and the wood-fired oven are the reasons for the taste of Parathasarathy vilas dosa. Even though every shop serves ghee dosa, this Parthasarathi Vilas ghee dosa is more popular. Those who go on a spiritual tour to Trichy do not leave without visiting Trichy Renganatha and worshipping Jambukeswarar at the Thiruvannaikoil Temple. Tourists boast that those who worship both temples never leave without tasting the 'Parthasarathy Kadai' ghee dosa.
[IMG]. Shop owners say that everyone from the late former Chief Minister Kamaraj to film celebrities are our customers.
But my nephew Dr Jai Suresh nephrologist and his spouse Dr Karpagam of ABC Hospital, Near Vasan Eye Care & Shanthi Complex, Annamalai Nagar, No 1, Karur Bypass Road, Malligai Salai Main Road, Thillai Nagar, Trichy-620018 seemed never visited this vilas.
People of Trichy talk a lot about this shop. What is so special about this shop...Those who come to Srirangam, which is situated like an island in the middle of two rivers that enrich Tamil Nadu, the Kollidam and the Cauvery, to visit Lord Renganatha, definitely do not miss visiting the Jambukeswarar Temple, one of the Panchabhootha temples, located two kilometers away. Those who visit like that don't miss out on trying the ghee dosa at the Parthasarathy Vilas Hotel, opposite the tower wall of the Thiruvananthapuram Temple.
    Parthasarathy Vilas

[IMG]When you hear 'Parthasarathy Vilas', everyone thinks of ghee dosa and it mouthwatering to them. They say that even if you are served ghee dosa with onion sambar, spicy chutney, or coconut chutney as a side dish, it tastes better than masala dosa.
As soon as I reached the right side of the Jambukeswarar temple tower, my senses were diverted and I entered Parthasarathy Vilas. Those who sit down and eat, mostly order dosa to carry home.

The chef take the dough and knead it into a crumbly dough on an iron thava that has been in use to make dosa since 60 years and gently add two or three spoonful of ghee.
They brought out a slim elliptical dosa, with the warm ghee glistening and in wavy lines. The dosa dissolved in my mouth in no time as I already dunked that piece in hot small onion sambar.

Even when eaten without accessiries, the taste of dosa leaves one mesmerized. The ghee dosa and sambar remains very special. Not only this, but everything else like sambar vada and rava pongal are also special. Also, the fact that they serve buttermilk too with coffee is special here. This very popular shop is said to have a host of celebrities as customers who visit Trichy during music seasons.
The manager proudly tells me that 60 years ago, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Kamaraj and other politicians had tasted the dosa in this vilas.

    Dear sir.

I did not know about this. I visited Jambukeshwarar temple end of December.
Had I known, I would have definitely gone there
One other place that my Dad kept insisting I go was Rama cafe in Kumbakonam. But sadly that place was no longer there.

    Regards
    Uma

I had visited the temple more than 3 decades ago when I was a child. I still remember my dad pointing to one of the homes near the temple and saying this is where my grandmother's family lived. Seeing this post, whenever I go to India, I have to go to visit the temple. My paatis name was the temple goddess namesake - Akhilandeshwari.

Wish you and your family also a very happy pongal @Thyagarajan sir!!

THIRUVANAIKOIL IS MY NATIVE PLACE TOO> I was born and brought up in an unelectrified house with 18 cousins.
My record work etc were done only in the outer prakaaram of Akilandeswari temple. But I have never visted Parthasarathi Hotel, for that matter any hotel in Tiruchy.

Big street Arya Bhavan used to supply in brass Davar-tumler Cow’s Milk peabury filter coffee. Dad an addict of pea berry coffee used to hold my hand and before visiting other shops and temples, would take me to this hotel before dawn. The entire street used to be permeated with strong pea berry coffee flavour.

If it is dosa ghee, in Chennai there is karpagambal bhawan opposite main entrance of Mylapore Kabbali temple. It is Agraharam style walls decorated with huge framed pictures of Ambal and other goddesses.
