Thanks Ms SIngh Manisha. we like the political discussion which percolates into the dining table. I am an analyst by nature and prefer to have my own views. When I differ from others, how am I going to handle with pleasantness. I should learn.

@gopalan1937, under the said situation, I would probably use something in the lines of,

"I respect your opinion but I differ....here is why...."

Hello mr gopalan,
It may be unwise for you to get into political debates so soon. You are still very new to the country and learning its ways. By all means take advantage of all the media offerings, shows and find first the positions that you are comfortable with. Within the privacy of your home or with relatives you know very well in a private setting go ahead and broach the topic. But limit it to that. The climate right now is extremely fraught and most of us steer clear of these in real life. One truth we all follow in America is Never get into discussions about religion or politics!

I have to agree with @troubledmom here. Feel free to discuss politics over dinner with your wife and children. But not in public . As a new immigrant and also considering the political climate it is best not to get into debates with acquaintances and strangers.
