Sheer complacency undid us. Our team has no dearth for talent or competence. It is the over-confidence that fails us in crunch situations. Let us hope the team learns fast and play level headed throughout. Besides there appears to be too much of a hype from our media.

4. Previous ball, umpire not noticing the field placements violating power play rule is the root (route) cause. As @Cheeniya our Bhisma Pitha Maha says it was two day semifinal and therefore India lost.

In cricket, the umpires making mistake is becoming very common and that is why they have introduced 2 reviews per team. Even in England Vs Australia, a caught behind claim was given when England had no more review left and Jason Roy ended up walking after a big fight with the umpire.

My point is why it should be left to Dhoni and Jadeja to win the game? The opening batters are experts in batting and they are supposed to assess any condition and accordingly adjust the batting style. Rohit Sharma, K.L.Rahul and Virat Kohli got out for audacious shot selection in a seaming condition. Trend Boult was swinging the ball so nicely in a beautiful English weather. Do you recall summer of 42 event that happened many years ago?

I feel everyone looked up to the final thinking New Zealand is a push over. They are not. It is a competing team. Indian team needs to regroup to assess the reasons for failure. So many have questions the batting order selection, omission of key players in the middle order, etc. Only New Zealand understood that the pitch was 240 runs pitch and India thought it was a cake walk. If young Rishab Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and M.S.Dhoni didn't fight, the team would have lost the match so badly. Finding rain as the reason is incompetence and the cloud cover was existing from the beginning of the match and that is why New Zealand could not score fast enough but managed to negotiate difficult overs from Indian fast bowlers.

Moreover, India had enough time to plan when play was abandoned to determine the strategy. 240 runs in 50 overs is less than 5 an hour all they need to do is to play out initial overs as <5 runs an hour is not at all a difficult target for any chasing team. The Indian batters need to focus their attention on the opposition and their strategies instead of living in self pride primarily derived from press singing their praise.

bcci, kohli, ravi shashthri have got a lot to explain and correct. they never allowed one single guy to settle in 4 down since the last 2 years. tinkering, tampering and finally damaging the outcome. shami was also ignored. rayudu was never given a chance. even jadeja was tried only in the last. india screwed up the mighty chance of winning again.

Commendable performance towards goal, they loose or won they tried their best. Top 1 is Australia, 2nd INDIA till semifinals.. Yes it is a bad day for India.
