It was about 4 O' clock in the evening . I went to a hotel , took a seat and ordered for a Rava Dosa.
The waiter was very active and busy . The manager was calling him in a loud voice , ordering him to help shifting some bags of grocery , to the store room . The waiter waved his hands replying , " one minute Sir ". However he attended the customers also in a quick manner .
To my surprise , within five minutes , I got a ' very very hot and sweet smelling ' Rava Dosa .
The waiter asked for my next order and I said " coffee".
Just then two persons came and occupied the two seats opposite to me , of the same table .
They were Kalyanam and Gopinath , my friends only .
The colour of the Rava Dosa was a feast to their eyes , and its sweet aroma , a catalyst to their olfactory nerves; they instantly made their first choice "RAVA DOSA" .
The waiter was in a hurry .
" What would you take sirs ?"
Kalyanam and Gopinath , in a duet, said "Rava Dosa".
The waiter almost ran away .
All the three of us were talking and I was eating my Dosa .
    About 15 minutes passed .
I had finished eating the Dosa, washed my hands and returned to my seat .
My friends were still waiting for Rava Dosa .
Then came the waiter like a hurricane ,
placed my coffee on the table , handed over my bill ,
placed the Dosa plates in front of my friends
    AND
    absconded .
On seeing the Rava Dosa within their hands' reach , their faces bloomed and glowed like a flower with a large bright smile . I could see a happy green signal on their faces .
    But , ALAS !
The signal changed into RED , as soon as their hands touched the Dosa . Their faces turned bitter and frowned .
    Why ? What happened ?
Gopi and Kalyanam tried to call the waiter , but he was gone .
They told me that the Dosa were not hot - very cold !
    Chill !
They tried to call the Supervisor , but he was also not in the vicinity . He was checking the bags unloaded from the van.
I started to sip my coffee and my friends tried to eat the dosas .
    There was calmness .
The situation took a small turn when Kalyanam , in a consoling voice said to Gopinath," Not bad as we thought".
Gopinath : Yes ,it is not very bad.
    ....
    Kalyanam: It tastes good only.
Gopinath : It is surely good .
    ......
Kalyanam : Really it tastes better ya .
    Gopinath : Really better .
    ......
Gopinath : Rava Dosa tastes more when it becomes chill .
Kalyanam : Rava Dosa tastes better and better when it becomes more and more chill.
    ....
Both of them asked me in a duet ,"What do you say ?"
    What could I say ?
I just nodded my head in approval .
All the three of us came out of the hotel .
Gopinath said ," we have to adjust ourselves to what we have as well as what we don't have . We have to count our blessings".
    There came a beggar .
Gopinath gave him five rupees , which could easily buy three meals plus , in those days.
Gopinath said ,"We have to compare ourselves with less blessed people in this respect ."
How simply he told a great truth !

    Dear @ksuji ,

"Gopinath said ," we have to adjust ourselves to what we have as well as what we don't have . We have to count our blessings".

    These words provoked my thought.

I thought there should be difference between --
    1. "what we are entitled to have and don't have" and
2."what we are not entitled to have and don't have".

It is true that we do have a high degree of tolerance of not having even what we are justifiably entitled to have. This tolerance has contributed to the sufferings of poor millions and acceptance of lack of standard in every walk of life.Surely, it is not acceptable to be arrogant and rude. But at the same time it is not acceptable not to strive for perfection in all our dealings/ performances and expect to deliver the best entitlement for others.

While I appreciate the good gesture of Gopinath and Kalyanam, has it not encouraged imperfection and "poor customer service" on the part of the restaurant and the server? Would he not expect other customers also to be as good and accept a "Cold Dosa" in future? Can't the server apologise at least for the delay and the precious time of two customers who pay for his salary?

Here, the difference between western culture and our culture is worth noting. While they count the blessings in the second case, they don't accept the first case.

In western society, the customer satisfaction is the ultimate standard in every interaction. It has become their culture. Anything sold can be accepted back/replaced/refunded back always with a smile if the customer is dissatisfied. This includes the elected politicians who resign like David Cameron the British Prime minister on knowing the dissatisfaction of his electorate.

Of course, our cultural and traditional values in so many other areas are so lovely and beautiful!
