Commonwealth Games 2010

The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held on Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from 3 October, 2010 to 14 October, 2010 comprising various contests in Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling. The Games will not match up to the Olympic Standards, so we can expect India to garner a lot of medals in various events. This will be a showcase event for India and India will definitely host the Commonwealth Games, 2010 successfully, notwithstanding various complaints of red tapism, corruption and unpreparedness.


The reason why I am so confident is because traditionally, Indians are slow starters but will somehow finish the tasks at the last minute, no matter at what cost. Even for school exams, majority of Indian students have a habit of studying for exams 5 to 10 days prior to the announcement of exams. They will refer to previous year’s question papers and take the help of model guides but somehow will pass their exams. I am also one of them.


In office, we always relax and shirk work but work overtime and achieve targets within the deadline. We also claim overtime allowance for our outstanding efforts.


If you are still not convinced, look at the grand Indian marriages. They will spend lot of money, their budgets will go sky-rocketing, the plans will go haywire, unpredictable demands will be made at the last minute and they will have to face the music of troublesome relatives to cooks to contractors. At the end of the day, however, the marriage will be a grand success and the guests will compliment their hosts after feasting on sumptuous delicacies.


Same will happen with the Commonwealth Games. We will entertain our guests from other countries. Disgruntled elements can always be bribed. Soon after the games, the Queen of England will thank India for holding such a great event in a fantastic manner. The entire world will take notice of India’s prowess in hosting International tournaments. India will take on the rest of the world in bidding for the Olympics. Suresh Kalmadi will definitely be in the organizing committee.


The people of India will definitely be not bothered by any of the happenings as they will be watching India take on the rest of the world in Twenty20 Cricket World Cup. As far as 50% of India’s malnourished children, farmers and poor people working in the unorganized sectors are concerned, politicians like Mani Shankar Aiyyer will always shout for them in the political arena.
