Surrogacy has invaded the lower middle class for want of funds and for improving their debt status.

Many of the wives with the husbands concent have opted to be give their womb 'for rent'. It might have created a trend in the society like the kidney donation in Villivaakam , a place in Chennai. You cannot find a house without a member with one kidney to pay off their debt.

Bangalore has become one of the busiest city and more ladies have volunteered to stand for the childless couples, in return for their gesture, they are paid in cash in full. But how far and how long is it going to be fruitful and what is the limit?

Some of the women organizations feel it's become more of a commercial market of buying the womb for a price and the mothers selling their wombs for the lure of money.

Those who come forward come out voluntarily and no one forces them to do so.They feel why can't these women be given employment to improve their status and standard of living?

Very thoughtful and concerned post,Mathangi...
Wombs for hire is a new business oppurtunity for the needy ...they are ready to undergo the stress, pain and physical and emotional trauma-for some money! Just like an assignment.
But howmany times they can do this? Will it take a toll on their health?
No one cares to educate themand they are alsonot ready to think about that -only immediate cash counts for them...
Some NGOs should take up the matter...

Dear M,

i have never understodd the concept of surrogate deliveries. if u cant have a kid, why dont people adopt children from an orphanage ? Do people think ones own blood is better, do we not see ourown kids being cruel to parents, so where is the guarantee that our own kid will be goodm, and an orphan has different blood and he will turn out to be bad ?

i guess upbringing , that is parvarish matter, not whether the child is yours or of the orphanage.

Regards

kamal

hi

sorry if I sound to be trivializing the issue..

Seems to be a case of demand and supply between the have-nots and those who have..

A host of questions like physical and emotional health of the surrogate mother, leagalities, ethical issues etc. need to be addressed here before we as a responsible, caring society can accept or oppose such things.

Thanks for throwing light on this matter.

Baby at any cost - The Times of India

Go through this write up which was featured in yesterday's TOI and you will know why people go for it.

Frankly speaking ,people are scared of adoption mainly because of the credential of the parents. The babies could be out of proper wedlock, or abandoned by the mother, or conceived out of rape, or any other illegitimate route. The fear of the baby inheriting certain bad qualities of the parents and the not sure parenthood pushes them to go for surrogacy. The sickening adoption procedure in our country makes the couple think twice before going for adoption.

Once adoption sets the trend, who knows we may have more unwanted children in the society!. We have no hold on the orphans and babies disowned by parents within hours of birth.
Each one who wants to go for surrogacy should think in detail about the balance between adoption and surrogacy.

hi

Adoption is an option and a noble one at that. But I don't feel adoption can be a substitute for having a child thru' surrogacy- the ultimate 'need' to have a child may get fulfilled in either cases, but the 'want' may not. And there are many ifs and buts that have to be addressed in both cases-so each to ones own, I guess.
