Clinical Psychologist referrals please

    Hi ladies,

    Have you or someone you know consulted with a clinical psychologist for a child with behavioural issues or suspected ADD/ADHD?

    I need a consult for my 10 year old ASAP...

    I have googled some info but would really like to have some more referrals and feedback on this.

    I live in Dubai so preferably psychologists based in Dubai, please.

    Hi,
    My child was suspected of Adhd and we approached the school counsellor.She really was very helpful and we did a lot of Q&A surveys regarding AdHd.The type was identified and we had both parental and child counselling in school.He was identified as a very mild case and with change of behavioural approach .we were able 2 correct it.
    Try the school counselling first as the school would give required support.

    thanks very much for your suggestion. I really appreciate it considering i have not received as many responses despite so many views in both the UAE and Dubai forum!!

    We had, in fact, consulted with the school counsellor in my son's previous school. Not much came of it, unfortunately. He was just pulled out of class a couple of times everyday for assessments and all it led to was unnecessary labelling! It was not handled in a very professional manner. I did ask if she would like to meet us parents as well to discuss more and she kept putting it off. I have changed his school since then but this experience has really put me off consulting with school counsellors again.

    It's great that it worked out for you though and am happy for your DS and you. I know how hard and stressful this can be.

    we have just done our first session with a psychologist and she has suggested doing further tests and will continue with behaviour therapy. hope all works out well with us too.

    i am happy you have progress but fortunately for me the school was very supportive because they also realigned the teachers approach to the child according to the identified symptoms.And a very professional approach was adopted.

    Once we have the diagnosis and reports, the psychologist will visit the school, meet with the counsellor and the teacher to work out the way forward.

    It's great to hear that your child's school has been so professional and supportive.
