Cleansing/Detox for weight loss

    Hi IL,

    I would like to start new thread about weight loss which is specifically related to cleansing/detoxing of body which play important role to loose weight as well. This is not talked much about or explained.

    We have been discussing different aspects of weight loss such as Excercise regimen & Healthy diets in blogs and threads.

    I am including here few things related to detoxing body regularly, please feel to include information which will help to everybody:

    - 1- 2 glass of warm water as soon as you get up ( as per Ramdev baba suggestion) this works fast.
    - Pear/Apple in the morning for breakfast and after dinner
    - High fiber breakfast
    - Drink luke warm water whole day (this will keep moisten the food that is intaken and body as well and helps evacation easily)
    - Dinner before 3-4 hours before going to bed
    - Walking
    - Stretches

    Just read these points online..

    1. Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods.

    2. Cleanse and protect the liver by taking herbs such as dandelion root, burdock and milk thistle, and drinking green tea.

    3. Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.

    4. Drink at least 2 quarts of water daily.

    5. Breathe deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through your system.

    6. Transform stress by emphasizing positive emotions.

    7. Practice hydrotherapy by taking a very hot shower for five minutes, allowing the water to run on your back. Follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes.

    8. Sweat in a sauna so your body can eliminate wastes through perspiration.

    9. Dry-brush your skin or try detoxifying patches or detox foot spas / foot baths to remove toxins through your pores. Special brushes are available at natural products stores.

    10. What is the most important way to detoxify? "Exercise," says Bennett. "Yoga or jump-roping are good. One hour every day." Also try qigong, a martial-arts based exercise system that includes exercises specifically for detoxifying or cleansing, as well as many other exercises with specific health benefits.

    The following are the signs of constipations
    1. Not a single bowel motion in a day
    2. Pain in the abdomen
    3. Heaviness in the stomach
    4. Wind formation
    5. Mucus coated tongue
    6. Headache
    7. Loss of appetite
    8. Pain in the lower legs
    9. Hypertension, fever
    10. Nausea
    11. Vertigo
    12. Palpitation
    13. Drowsiness


    Home Remedies for constipation
    1. Drinking a glass full of warm milk or water before retiring to bed helps in easy evacuation in the next morning. In case of severe constipation, mix two tea spoons of castor oil (errand oil) in the milk.
    2. Drink about 1 liter of warm water and walk around for a few minutes straight away after waking up early in the morning.
    3. Drinking lemon juice mixed with warm water 2 to 3 times a day eases constipation.
    4. 1 or 2 teaspoons of aloe vera juice can works wonders if taken twice daily
    5. A common Ayurvedic medicine for constipation is Triphala is magical herb incase of constipation. It is a mixture of three kinds of herbs. A teaspoon of this powder taken or two capsules daily with warm water or milk at the time going to bed is beneficial.
    6. Constipation treatment using Grapes - Grapes have proved extremely beneficial in over coming constipation problem. The combination of the properties of the cellulose, sugar, and organic acid in grapes make them a mild laxative. Their field of action is not restricted to clearing the bowels only. They also tone up the stomach and intestines and relieve the most chronic constipation condition. One should take about 350 grams of grapes daily to attain the desired results. When fresh grapes are not available, raisins, soaked in water, can be used instead of it. Raisins should be soaked for 24 to 48 hours. This will make them swell to the original size of the grapes. They should be eaten early in the morning empty stomach, along with the water in which they have been soaked.
    7. Constipation treatment using Orange - Orange is also helpful in the treatment of constipation. Taking one or two oranges at bed time and again on rising in the morning is a brilliant way of stimulating the bowels to have easy evacuation.
    8. Constipation treatment using Papaya and Figs - Additional fruits precise for constipation conditions are papaya and figs. Both fresh and dry figs have a mild laxative effect. 4 or 5 dry figs should be drenched over night in a little water and eaten in the morning.
    9. Constipation treatment using Spinach - Among the vegetables, spinach has been measured to be the most fundamental food for the entire digestive tract. Raw spinach has the finest organic material for the cleansing, rebuilding, and renewal of the intestinal tract. Raw spinach juice 100 ml, mixed with an equivalent quantity of water and taken twice daily, will cure the most provoked cases of constipation within a few days.
    10. Flax seeds powder in warm water
    Dos and don'ts

    1. The diet taken during constipation must be light easily digestible.
    2. Plenty of fruits, vegetables and salads should be included in diet
    3. Freshly cooked food, and chew food thoroughly.
    4. Eat only when hungry and maintain at least four hours between meals.
    5. Use spices such as cumin or jeera, coriander, turmeric or haldi powder, fennel and asafetida as they make the food easy to digest.
    6. Whole grain bread and cereals
    7. Regular physical work out is also vital for maintaining proper bowel movements.
    8. Sleeping hours should be synchronized and efforts should be made to have a sound sleep.
    9. Fried foods, beans, gas forming vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli, nuts and dried fruits should be kept away from.
    10. Do not blend too many kinds of foods in one meal.
    Causes


    The aggravation of vata dosha causes constipation. Improper eating habits like eating a lot of food, eating food that is difficult to digest (such as red meat) and not eating enough vegetables and salads also lead to constipation.

    Uneven sleeping habits or emotional disturbances (stress, grief, fear or worry) are other causes for the obstacle of the passage of stool, accumulation of toxins in the colon or excessive encouragement of the nervous system.

    Smoking tobacco, consuming too much tea and coffee, or intake of prescription or illegal drugs can also cause constipation.

    Hi Marathimulgi,

    U have started a nice thread:thumbsup,
    I have also read that, choosing 1 day in a week and have only fruits / fruit juices w/o sugar and no salt for the entire day will cleanse the body.

    And also having carrot, tomato and beetroot juice in the morning will cleanse the body

    Iam following the routine of eating only fruits/ fruit juices and vegetables for a day. It really works, i feel very light the next day

    I agree with deethijv.
    5 years back when I was trying to lose weight, I used to have carrot, tomato, beetroot salad for breakfast. Just squeeze a lime. No salt.

    The suggestions for weight loss and detoxification are seems to be incomplete. Well, diet monitoring and consumption of type of fat (Hydrogenated) is another essential steps to reduce wieght apart from regular physical exercise and intake of luke warm water.

    Kapalbhati Yoga and sudershan kriya will be another plus points
