Dear op, congratulations on the new house.
May you and your family have a blessed life filled with happy memories there.

The house must have cost a lot of money.

Unless it is absolutely necessary to give return gift, please avoid it and use it for some woodwork or payment of emi if you took loan for the house etc.

    why waste money like this?

Sai has a point. If the gift is cheap, people will just toss it and go away. Waste of money for you.

    Dear Sudha sister,

Yeah that is TRUE, if I were in OPs shoes with a constrained budget i would buy more fruits give a mixed fruits in a Bag, family can go home and happily eat it on the same or next day or some extra sweets prepared in bulks 4 or 5 of them in a packet will outshine.

Where is the hard and fast rule to buy cheap items and present it, her conditions one of them should be usuable, even our maids use good quality blouse bits these days. Thanks for agreeing with me..

    Well said Anita Sister:)

It depicts her mind well that she wants to give for the sake of giving but with so many conditions on it... Yes it is better not to give, Thank you for seconding my thought..

    Hi All,

First of all thank you for your suggestions and advice. Some of the gift ideas were good. Actually, i forgot to mention a point, there is a budget constraint due to the fact that there will lots of families coming, roughly around 70 - 80 families. No complaints on this though, coz its a function meant for receiving good wishes from family and friends. I already figured out that the budget is less for a return gift. So, the last option was to post in this forum to get ideas. Idols of god as return gift is Ok but i'm worried when it turns out to be a problem when it comes to mixed religions. What is the rate of fancy diyas? Is it good enough for a return gift?
I happened to know a place that sells Clay diyas for 20 - 25 bucks in T.Nagar. What about Parrys Corner or Mylapore? Is it possible to get any good gifts there?

If you buy clay items, make sure you pack them properly or inform the people so they will handle it carefully while going home.

Have fun at your house warming ceremony.:thumbsup
