Totally agree, Balajee. I remember when I was younger and my parents were on the lookout for eligible prospectives, i was very particular about where I wanted to be. I always thought that my girl cousins from our home village would have it much easier moving to a city than I would if it were to be the other way around. True, in those times, life in a village would in certain ways be more challenging compared to a city with all its modcons, but not tougher than for my aforementioned cousins hailing from a green plantation in Kerala moving to the stark, characterless big cities of the world.

Just like my dad's family home in Kerala. They were 5 brothers and 4 sisters. All the brothers sold their share of property to the youngest brother living there. Now he is also no more and one of his sons and his family live there. The rest of his 6 children are all over the place.

    Dear Satchi,

My first thought was "Hope that child's perspective won't change"! You speaking of Pakistan, reminded me of I am Malala! She describes SWAT Valley so beautifully and with so much pride. I am sure we all have those moments of utter belief that our world is the best. Holding on to that content and fighting off the influences of the world is a sadhana by itself. In our house, I am called a "City Girl",, but I won't be able to handle the city without the serenity of my yard, if no space for a yard, perhaps as many plants as I could have.....you now something pleasing to the eyes as we wake up and look out.

Hi Sabitha, pride in one's own lifestyle, home etc. is a wonderful thing which gives a lot of peace. I just hope and pray that that child will be able to appreciate somebody else's life and situations too and understand where they come from when they are so proud of those. I hope he does not have to wait as long as me!!! :p

In the larger picture, my religion is better than yours or is the only 'right' religion has brought us to where we are today. I hope the younger generation turns wiser and much sooner. Could not hurt them.
