Very well said, SpringB. Loved reading your write up. I so agree with your colleague and his approach to life. We all wish to have our parents with us for the longest time possible, but nothing can be more painful to see them suffer pain, lose their personalities in some cases and turn into people who are no longer the parents we knew, loved, cherished and grew up with. I would not wish it on anybody I loved.
