    Hi All,

I got my driving license 7 years back and could not continue driving after my daughter's birth and work etc.
Now i wanted to get back to driving ,i neither drove a bicycle or two wheeler and so got a personal instructor to teach me driving and today is the 5th day of the class.
I really need some motivation and tips / ideas from experienced drivers here on how i need to practice car driving ,i am keen not to get my husband to guide me as will be more painful for me.
Hope this will be helpful for me and also others who are sailing in the same boat as me.

Are you in India or some other country?
Okay some tips I can give.
    1) two wheeler ,cycle riding is totally different than driving the car.
    2) take as many classes as possible from the personal trainer.
    3) if required take car simulator classes once you finish personal training. I personally skipped this because nothing can beat the lessons you learn on roads.
    4) start slowly. Once you are confident take the car out and find a quite road where u can drive and practice. Here you should practice steering control, changing gears etc. Initially don't try to become expert in parking you will get demotivated. Use your hubby for removing it from parking lot and putting it back. First get basic things like control of gears and control of steering.
    5) drive as much as you can alone and don't take your husband for company because they will start controlling everything and you will never learn how to judge . It's frustrating to learn from them.
    6) once you get a hold of all the above, start taking it in traffic roads. Every single time u drive you will learn something or the other in the initial days.

    Roads are the best teachers.
You will overcome the fears the more and more you drive on your own without a character sitting next to you and telling you what next you should do. .. .

    Good luck..

Hi @omsrisai, I have experienced the same what you had told. After having my daughter I lost the touch in driving for few years. When I started it back I too needed motivation. I looked on YouTube for tips. There are lots of channels for helping learners. One of my most favorite channel is 'conduite facile'. I will try adding a link of this. This channel helped me a lot in boosting my confidence.

Try and get an automatic transmission car. That will help with India traffic situation.

A few people whom I know also suggested to me..
Can someone clarify whether an automatic car is easier to drive than a regular manual geared car?
I drive very rarely but I find changing gears very stressful and I get road fear and scared of traffic...

Yes, Automatic transmission is very easier than manual. Only accelerator and brake are present. No clutch and gear change for speeding up and down. There is gear. After starting the car, we put the gear in drive mode and that is it. We need to change gear to R mode only if we want to go reverse.

Automatic is much easier than Gear. However I haven't switched to one yet and my next pick would be automatic. But have seen people ladies especially who find automatic way much easier...
Gear one you just need to get used.. Not difficult altogether. But when there is easier option better to go with it..

About driving in general, honestly, it’s practice, practice n practice. So keep driving / practising everyday. The discomfort n stress reduces as you feel better about your driving. But not gonna lie about the traffic getting any better or not cause stress, you may just start to handle it a lil better. So many years of driving, it still drives me crazy.

Then automatic car may be the right fit for you. Its generally said that people who drives a geared one can easily switch to automatic but it’s tough the other way round as automatic cars are very easy to handle, n the car doesn’t stop mid way like while changing gears or starting after a traffic light, a problem many learners face, even I have faced during my learning days n got yelling from the traffic cops or bad honking for stopping the traffic, lol.
