Can a H1b holder invest in stocks in US? Any legal issues that has to be taken care of?(I googled and found the answer yes) I just want to make sure if its legal. It would be of gr8 help if anyone could give a website link from US govt justifying its legal... Any info gr8ly appreciaated...
Yes its legal to invest in stocks even when you are on a H1B visa. However you have to submit the year end statement while filing for taxes. I am on H1 and I have been investing in stocks since past 3 yrs and also submitted my taxes informing my investments etc. Sorry I do not know the website link justifying its legal....however if you can contact scottrade or sharebuilder kind of sites...their legal agreement will have this kind of information or you can call and check with them. The most imp. thing is they would need a SSN# if someone wants to invest in stocks...that way they keep track of all this.
Definitely "YES", it is legal to invest in stocks in the US. I know a lot of my co-workers on H who invest in stocks. My sister invested when in F and H visa. All you have to do is, report it properly. Infact, H ppl can invest in homes or real estate and in stocks.
