[JUSTIFY]Children learn a lot from an infant stage before they become school going children. At that stage, majority of their learning process is through their senses. The children feel love the way parents touch them. They also form an impression about the world through smelling and therefore, it is important to keep the house clean and keep scented candle lights or incense. Whether they drink milk or other food, the parents will have to use extreme hygiene standards and clean up the bottles and vessels that are used to feed the children. The food that we use to feed them should be clean and warm. It does not have to be rich but it should be clean and warm food.

It is also important to keep conversing with the children whether you get response from them or not. They keep watching the words coming out of our mouth and our body language. Therefore, it is important that everything we say to the child should be with a lot of love. Besides expressing love to the child, the spouses should talk to each other lovingly and there has to be a perfect harmony at home when a small child is at home. Even our thoughts and habits will have to be clean in the presence of children as they have ability to perceive the positive and negative vibrations around them.

Most important things are our words and actions as well as our communication with the child. The two important things that a child develops at that stage are their learning and communication skills. We need to carefully listen when the children do baby talk. This habit of the parents gives them excellent listening skills in future. We should never do baby talking with the children as it would result in them learning no communication skills. It is very important to speak slowly but clearly in front of the children. This will help them build vocabulary step by step over a period of time. It is very important not to use any foul language in the presence of the children. Without knowing the meaning, they might reuse it in an inappropriate time. Language skills explode in their brain during this stage and hence they will be very quick in learning many languages, if they hear multiple languages. But it is important to make them understand the meaning of each word and teach them to develop the language skills step by step.

Most of their day to day skills are learned by watching the parents. When the children call the parents, we should respond immediately. The parents should also avoid negative communication with the children. If you like them to become independent decision makers, it is better to explain the risks associated with each one of their actions rather than telling them not to do something. While children eat, it is important to tell some wonderful stories and make them listen. The parents should teach them to take a deep breath and enjoy the nature as many times in a day as possible. They should be trained to be very active so that their fitness will develop automatically. When they wake up in the morning, the parents should acknowledge them with a broad smile thereby training them to be cheerful when they wake up. Similarly, when they go to bed, we should tell them moral stories or teach them some chants that would let them sleep with good vibration.

The parents should never compromise on the personal hygiene of the children and change the diapers as many times as possible. Every day the child should be given shower so that they should look forward to get accustomed to it. These habits will develop them into keeping their health fit when they grow up. It is very important to let children play with other children so that they will get trained to build friendship. When they play, we should train them to share their playing toys with other friends. At that stage of growth, the children learn so much and even a slightest mistake in their upbringing will have big impact in their future. It is like turning the steering wheel of a car that is in high speed.

As a young parent, I find this blog very relevant and useful Viswa. Thanks for sharing this. And I find that I definitely need to learn to be more patient. Especially this point - "The parents should also avoid negative communication with the children. If you like them to become independent decision makers, it is better to explain the risks associated with each one of their actions rather than telling them not to do something." -rgs

    Dear RGS,

I am so humbled and honored to know that this blog is useful to young parents. Most pediatric psychologists suggest that the parents should avoid negative communication with the children. If we have to stop them from doing something, it is better to give a good reason for it. The whole life unfolds to the children based on early inputs they get. Their learning cycle is so high to begin with and they proceed on high speed. At that time, if we move the steering wheel even a little bit, it would have a significant impact in their entire life. Once the parents understand early part of a child's life impacts them a lot later, the parents will automatically become responsible.
