    Hi ILs,

I have a clear skin (actually used to have) and thats my question. My face used to be clear, but now there are some brown to light brown spots here and there on the face (are they called freckles?) specially after coming to US, possibly due to the cold weather.

Can you please suggest some homemade face packs, masks, etc. to make my face clear again? I have a fair complexion and it looks even bad because of that.

I would also like to mention that I have dry skin.

Can all this be due to some kind of deficiency?

    Thanks all!

Sahmaara, do you use sunscreen meticulously? Its possibly the uneven skin tone from sun exposure. You could try a couple of things that always help me:

    1. Try a lotion mask, especially because your skin is dry and it looks more uneven when the skin's losing moisture - immediately after you wash your face, take 3-4 cotton pads (small ones we use to remove make up and stuff) and flatten and wet them in the palm of your hand. Put a drop or two of your face lotion (not cream, but lotion works best) in your palm, and let the wet cotton pieces absorb it along with the water, and cover your face with those cotton pads, letting your skin absorb the moisture for 10-15 minutes until the cotton dries. At the end of it, just remove the cotton pads, massage the remaining lotion if any in your skin and seal it in with a night cream. Because of the moisture from water and lotion, your skin is better able to absorb the lotion, and it sorts of penetrates the deeper layers of skin rather than just sitting on the surface layers. It helps get the dark spots fade away quicker as well because the cells sort of plump up and skin just looks healthier and younger - try it, it makes a BIG difference to skin texture and skin looks a lot more even toned the next morning.
    2. Try a brightening mask if you can, I love Shiseido's Retinol masks, they're pricey, but oh boy do they work - leave your skin looking and feeling amazing!
    3. If you can, you might also want to try the Clarisonic face cleansing system, it makes am amazing difference to your skin, I've been using it for a while and my skin has never looked better (battled adult acne with its dark spots for years, but now people stop me to ask what I'm using on my skin!). If not, try regularly sloughing your facial skin with one of those scrub pads, you can also make your own.
    4. You might also want to use the regular home made things like papaya mask, tomato mask and so on.
    5. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen :).

    HI

Iam facing the same problem.I checked with a skin specialist. He said me this is because of the UV rays.Your skin starts rapid ageing when we go unprotected in the sun. This leads to brown spots.

The best way, apply sunscreen evenly on face before you are out to the sun.Don't forget to re-apply just before another 4 hours if you remain exposed.

Sahmaara, I've tried many of the homemade things over the years, however found that for the most part, they weren't as potent as the ones I've listed above, or maybe, I just wasn't doing the right things... They would help, but the effects weren't as long lasting as with some of the products I'm using now.

Home made things I've tried include using citrus on the face (lemon, tomatoes) at night, papaya/avocado/yogurt masks, juices from grated potatoes, carrots and so on... I don't know. These home made things just don't work for me to reduce the brown spots as efficiently as others although they help calm my skin down after the sun exposure. And I had a lot of hits and misses with products as well before I found this regimen that finally worked!

If you find something that works, please post it here for us too :).

About your other question on Sunscreen (in another forum), I used to break out and refrained from using them for a long time, however I was finally won over by Shiseido's sunscreens. I'm a convert now, they're really light, non greasy, and don't have that sunscreen-y feel when you apply them and have helped even out my complexion. Derms suggest using SPFs greater than 15 or so, and to reapply frequently. The one I use right now is an SPF 38, but go higher if at the beach or out in the sun.
