Hi Satyasri, meena krishnan, Is brown rice same as Kerala Chemba ari ? As far as I know they are different. If so , what is brown rice called in Tamil/ malayama? Can you pl clarify? Radhi
As far as I know brown rice is chemba. There is white Chemba arisi and red chemba. The red (brown) rice is called 'matta rice' in tamil.A brand' 'NiRapaRa' from Kerala has Red rice aval and puttu powder . check this too- http://www.purcellmountainfarms.com/Red%20Matta%20Rice.htm
Thanks meena. I want to switch over from raw rice to chemba arisi. Chemba rice takes much time to cook. Any one knows any particular brand of chemba rice, which cooks faster? Radhi
well even i take brown rice once in a while. i also heard that it is rich in vitamins. it is cooked best when soadkes overnight and then cooked the next day morning . i take it in the form of kanji with greens poriyal( keerai poriyal). i like that combination.
Hi Radhi, In my opinion , brown rice doesn't go well with all our kozhamu and vathakkals.Curd rice will be very tasty.Rice has to be soaked for 1 hour and add more water while cooking.I take 5 glasses of water for 1 cup rice. Kanji can be made after breaking it(slightly bigger than rava size) in mixi. Love Meena
