IT was sad to read about an Australian woman who had a mammogram done recently which showed the “all clear”, only for her to discover later that she had developed enlarged lymph nodes under her armpits with secondaries elsewhere.


You can imagine her shock when she was told that the breast screening procedure was only 90% accurate.


Most women ignore basics. They ignore routine breast examination and opt for the technology of mammograms unhesitatingly as the first line of approach.


Women must be informed at a national level of the limitations of breast screening with mammography. There is a margin of 10% error in the reading i.e. false negatives are elicited in some cases.


Understandably, women would feel squeamish in presenting themselves for breast examination at male doctor clinics, but they can opt for female doctors.


Be that as it may, modesty has no place in the realm of cancer. All women should perform a complete self-breast examination every month.


It should be done in the sitting and lying positions with examination of the armpits as well.


The whole procedure takes just about two minutes and can truly be a lifesaver.

Dear Lalitha,

I heard that early stages of breast cancer is very easy to treat and also recovery is very fast.

Please do not panic. I have seen patients who got cured and are leading a normal life today. More than physically Cancer effects a person psychologically. Don't let that play with your confidence. The medical science has advanced a lot and cancer can be treated without a trace.

Iam giving you a list of foods that can be taken for betterment

- Have green tea atleast once a day, without milk.
- Make it a point to have carrot juice every day.
- Include cabbage atleast once in a week
- Eat garlic.
- Eat more salads and fruits, include apple,pomegranate for sure. Pomegranate has plenty of anti oxidants.
- Have a lot of fresh juices, try to stay as hydrated as possible

Do not think this is a disease. It is something which you need to get rid off. Do your day to day activities normally. Go for walks, start doing yoga, mainly pranayamam (take doctors advice) . I heard that pranayamam helps a lot during the treatment.

Be brave and fight against it. God will take care of the rest.

my prayers r wid u...
my hubby's frenz mom had BC, detedcted in later stages, got d breast removed n now all well. shes managing d house...

Dear lalitha,

I forgot to tell you about homeopathy. My Aunt ( I mentioned about her in the message i sent ) has been taking homeopathy along with allopathy medicines for almost 6 years now. She says its good for general well being.

You can consult your doctor and mention this to him/her. I wish you all the best. You will come out if it with flying colors, do not worry :thumbsup

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer can be defined as a cancer that starts in the breast. It usually occurs in the inner lining of the milk ducts or lobules. The cancer can be classified according to different stages and aggressiveness and genetic structure.

A recent study of Indian Council of Medical Research has depicted the gravity of the situation. Breast cancer in India is rising and is replacing cervical cancer and occupying the number one spot. 1 in 22 women is India is estimated to suffer from breast cancer in her lifetime and the number could be higher considering the fact that in rural areas a lot of cases go unreported.
