    Hi All,

I am new to cooking fish . I plan to make fish curries on the weekend. Mostly curries with coconut milk etc like Kerala style. I travel between countries and I dont know what fish to use for Fish curries. I travel between France and Australia. Could you please tell me which fish is best for curries? I will note down the names and look for it in the deli.

Look for wild caught, as farm raised have higher level of chemicals in them.
Tilapia is no no because it is bottom deweller and mostly farm raised, it is like the chicken of sea
Catish is no no because it is bottom deweller and mostly farm raised
Salmon is good but a pink meaty fish, try it once in curries, it is best baked by itself
Flounder is good white fish for curries
Snapper is good white fish for curries
Cod is good, but try small fillet for taste
I have never tried but people make curries with King fish fillet

Thanks @hermitcrab for being the first person to respond.
I tried fish curry for the first time with King fish two weeks back. Didn't quiet enjoy the fish taste though the curry turned out great. I will try the other options you have suggested :)

For curries, have tried to use filet. If baking, then skin-on steaks.
Even, I was not fond of Kind Fish taste.
My favorite is snapper filet for curries.
Halibut filet for baking, it is delicate fish to cook.
Catfish and tilapia has pretty good taste in curries, but they are farmed a lot.

For fish curries, any fish from mackerel family will be good (spanish mackerel r commonly avl ) pomferts r also goos for indian style curries.

    Ladies,
Since we are discussing fish please tell me a way to get a fish fry kind of taste without deep frying in house, which will smell the whole house in west.
I like the fish fry taste, but only bake at home.
