Bali is one of the many islands in Indonesia, the world’s biggest Muslim Country.
Over here, 93% of the people are Hindus. Bali is home to 42 lakhs Hindus. Years ago, Indonesia was a Hindu country. But after the invasion of Muslims, majority of the people were forced to convert their religion to Islam. Majapahit was an ancient kingdom in Indonesia which followed Hinduism. Majapahit kingdom started gradually weakening after the entry of Muslim rulers. After it was destroyed by Muslims, the Hindus who did not convert their religion shifted to Bali.
Some interesting information about Bali :
1. Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated every year in March.According to the Balinese calendar in 2013, it was celebrated on March 12th.
It is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a public holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese. The day following Nyepi is also celebrated as New year.
Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are: no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibition is that Bali’s usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. The only people to be seen outdoors are the traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed.
Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents of Bali observe the day of silence as well, out of respect for their fellow citizens. Even tourists are not exempt; although free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the beaches or streets, and the only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles carrying those with life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.

2. Hinduism came to Bali (Indonesia) from India in the fifth century. In Bali schools, students are taught lessons about rishis. While people in India are unaware about mythological characters like Markandeya and Agastya even the kids in Bali know about them.

3. The traditional dress of both men and women in Bali is “dhoti”. Devotees are not allowed to enter any Bali temple without wearing a dhoti. In India, only very few temples like Guruvayur insist on wearing dhoti to enter the temple. But in Bali, people are allowed to enter the temple ONLY IF dhoti is worn.

4. Bali's social, economic, and political structure is developed according to tri-hita-karana theory. This is being taught to the upcoming generation also.
Balinese traditional buildings are built according to the rule of Asta Kosala Kosali. This kind of rule regulates the layout of buildings like in Chinese culture, Feng Shui.
The building has three important aspects inside; they are Pawongan aspect, Palemahan and Parahyangan.
Pawongan means human or the inhabitant of the house while
palemahan means location or surroundings.
parahyangan element is showcasing holy zone for praying site or a place to keep ceremony tools.
Parahyangan - Pawongan - Palemahan is tri-hita-karana in Sanskrit.
Cosmogony and Tri Hita Karana
The Balinese Concept is fundamental from the Hindu Religion concept, which is more popular called TRI HITA KARANA where nowadays this concept has become the key point of any hotel, restaurant and other building assessment in the world. The Balinese Traditional Architecture also follows many aspects of philosophies and religion.
Tri Hita Karana Concept for Life
Tri Hita Karana (three harmonies, balance to create the peaceful and happiness).
Tri Hita Karana word comes from the Sanskrit Language that has meaning to keep the harmony and balance between human to God, human-to-human and human to environment. These three concepts are most popular in Bali.


PARHYANGAN
Parhyangan is one of the three concepts related to god. Here, the human is demanded to keep the harmony and balance with god. This concept has huge meaning among Balinese and they follow discipline and full faith in following this. It is not only including praying at the temple, but all the activities which has a good things in the life like building the temple, cleaning the temple, keeping the religious symbols clean and tidy etc.,
PAWONGAN
Pawongan in the concept which is required to keep the harmony and balance between human to human. This concept has emphasized how to maintain good relations with others. The simple ways to execute the implementation of this concept are to think about only the good things, to speak only the good things and to conduct only the good things.

PELEMAHAN
Palemahan, this word is come from lemah that is meaning the land or environment. Generally the Pelemahan in Tri Hita Karana is all the aspects related to the environment. Based on this concept, the Balinese treat the environment well and they believe that the good environment will make their life better. One example of this is , on the day of Tumpek Uduh based on the Balinese calendar, the Balinese give offering to the trees with the purpose that the trees have given them prosperity and a lot of things they can do to keep the harmony and balance with the environment.

5. Trikala Sandhya is otherwise our Surya Namaskaram. It is a rule that they perform Surya Namaskar thrice compulsorily in all Bali schools. Likewise they have to recite Gayathri Mantra also thrice daily. Gayatri mantra is being broadcasted in Bali radios at specific timings.

6. The Indonesia Government pays salary to the Bali temple priests. Though being a Muslim country, the Indonesian government supports all the other religions and pays salary to their priests as well.

7. Indonesians follow many of the indian cultural traditions because Hinduism was the most prevalent religion in Indonesia years ago. It is said that Indonesian ancestors originally came from the Indian subcontinent.

8. Indonesia plays an important place in the yield of rice. Paddy fields occupy most of the Bali island. The first offering after every paddy harvest is given to Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. There are temples these goddesses in every paddy field and farmers first pray here before proceeding to work in their fields.
The elders have taught the various farming/agriculture and irrigation methods in the 9th century itself. The irrigation system followed here is called Subak system. The irrigation system is fully controlled by the temple priests. It is noteworthy here that The World Bank has advised other countries also to follow this Subak system of irrigation. It has to be mentioned here that the science which Indians brought into Indonesia is not being followed right now in India.


9. During pooja/temple rituals the Bali Hindus do not read scriptures printed in books. They only read the ones which are handwritten on palm leaves. The Ramayana and Mahabharata are a part of their normal lives, a part of their ancient culture. Everyone here are well versed with Ramayanam. On festive days, they worship the Ramayana scriptures.

10. Dance is the main art form of Balinese culture and is performed during all temple festivals and ceremonies. Most of the time they perform for stories excerpted from Ramayana. There is no doubt about Bali being a like a heaven for Hindus.


Bali occupies an important place among the most beautiful islands of the world. Beautiful, peaceful lifestyle, traditional Hindu culture, dance, music attract more tourists to this island and there is absolutely no surprise about it.


உலகின் மிகப்பெரிய இஸ்லாம் நாடான இந்தோனேசியாவில் உள்ள ஒரூ தீவு தான் பாலி (BALI). இங்கே 93 சதவீத மக்கள் ஹிந்துக்கள். 42 லட்சம் ஹிந்துக்களின் தாயகமாக பாலி விளங்குகிறது. ஒரு காலத்தில் ஹிந்து ராஜ்யமாக இருந்த இந்தோனேசியாவில், முஸ்லிம்களின் படையெடுப்பிற்கு பிறகு பெரும்பான்மை மக்கள் முஸ்லிம்களாக மாற்றப்பட்டனர். இஸ்லாமியர்கள் மஜாபஹிட் (Majapahit ) என்ற கடைசி ஹிந்து மன்னரை வீழ்த்திய பிறகு ஹிந்து மதத்தை விட்டு மாறாமல் இருந்த மக்கள் பாலிக்கு குடிபெயர்ந்தனர்.

பாலியை பற்றிய சுவாரசியமான தகவல்கள்.

1. இங்கே ஒவொரு ஆண்டும் மார்ச் மாதத்தில் ஒரு நாள் மௌன விரதம் கடைபிடிக்கபடுகிறது. Nyepi day என்று சொல்கிறார்கள். 2013ல் மார்ச் 12ம் தேதி இந்த மௌன தினம் வருகிறது. ஹிந்துகளின் பண்டிகை போன்ற அந்த நாளில் இந்தோனேசியா முழுவதும் விடுமுறை அளிக்கபடுகிறது. காலை 6 மணி முதல், மாலை 6 மணி வரை எந்த போக்குவரத்தும் இருக்காது. பன்னாட்டு விமான நிலையமான Denpasar (bali) விமான நிலையம் கூட மூடப்பட்டு இருக்கும். யாரும் பேசிக்கொள்ள மாட்டார்கள். வீட்டில் இருந்தபடியே தியானம் செய்வார்கள்.

2. பாலியில் உள்ள ஹிந்து கலாச்சாரம் இந்திய ரிஷிகளிடமிருந்து வந்தது தான். பாலி பள்ளிகளில் இன்றும் கூட ரிஷிகளை பற்றிய பாடங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. புராணங்களில் வரும் மார்கண்டேய, அகஸ்திய, பரத்வாஜ ரிஷிகளை பற்றி இந்தியாவில் யாருக்கும் தெரியாத நிலையில், இந்த ரிஷிகளை பற்றி பாலி குழந்தைகள் கூட தெரிந்து வைத்து இருக்கிறார்கள்.

3. பாலியில் ஆணுக்கும், பெண்ணுக்கும் தேசிய உடை 'வேஷ்டி' தான். எந்த ஒரு பாலி கோவிலுக்கும் வேஷ்டி அணியாமல் ஆணோ, பெண்ணோ உள்ளே செல்ல முடியாது. இந்தியாவில் கூட சில கோவில்களில்தான் பாரம்பரிய உடை கட்டாயமாக உள்ளது (குருவாயூர் போன்ற). ஆனால் பாலியில் அனைத்து கோவில்களிலும் நமது உடை அணிந்து தான் செல்ல வேண்டும்.

4. பாலியின் சமூக, பொருளாதார, அரசியல் கட்டமைப்பு ரிஷிகள் உருவாகிய tri-hita-karana என்ற கோட்பாட்டின் படி தான் அமைந்துள்ளது. அதைதான் அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாரிசுகளுக்கும் சொல்லிக்கொடுக்கிறார்கள். Parahyangan - Pawongan - Palemahan என்று பொருள்படும். tri-hita-karana என்பது சமஸ்கிருதம்.

5. Trikala Sandhya என்பது சூரிய நமஸ்காரம். அணைத்து பாலி பள்ளிகளிலும் கட்டயாமாக மூன்று வேலை சூரிய நமஸ்காரம் செய்கிறார்கள். அதே போல மூன்று வேலையும் காயத்ரி மந்திரத்தை அவர்கள் பள்ளியில் சொல்லவேண்டும். பொதுவாக பாலி ரேடியோவில் மூன்று வேலை சூரிய நமஸ்காரம் செய்ய வேண்டிய நேரத்தில் அதை ஒலிபரப்புவார்கள்.
இந்தியாவில் சூரிய நமஸ்காரதிர்க்கு எதிர்ப்பு தான் வருகிறது. 5 வேலை நமாஸ் செய்ய சொல்வார்கள் போல.

6. பாலி கோவில் பூசாரிகளின் சம்பளத்தை இந்தோனேசியா அரசாங்கமே கொடுக்கிறது. முஸ்லிம் மத நாடான இந்தோனேசியாவில் அனைத்து மத கோவில் பூசாரிகளின் சம்பளத்தை அரசே கொடுக்கிறது. ஆனால் இந்தியா மத சார்பற்ற நாடு, இருந்தாலும் முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு மட்டுமே ஹஜ் செல்ல பணத்தை வாரி இறைக்கின்றது.

7. இந்தோனேசிய நாட்டின் மூதாதையர்கள் அனைவரும் ஹிந்துக்களே, அதனால் அவர்களின் பண்பாடுகளில் இந்திய கலாசாரமே அதிகம் கலந்துள்ளது.

8. உலகில் அரிசி விளைவிக்கும் நாடுகளில் இந்தோனேசியா முக்கிய இடம் வகிக்கிறது, பாலி தீவு முழுவதும் அரிசி வயல்கள் தான் இருக்கின்றது. பாலி மக்கள் விளைந்த அரிசியை முதலில் ஸ்ரீ தேவி, பூதேவி (Shri Devi and Bhu Devi ) ஆகிய தெய்வங்களுக்கு தான் படைக்கிறார்கள். அனைத்து வயல்களிலும் இந்த இரண்டு தெய்வங்களும் கோவில் இருக்கும், விவசாயிகள் இந்த இரு தெய்வங்களை வணங்கிய பிறகு தான் விவசாய தொழிலுக்கு செல்வார்கள். 9ஆவது நூற்றாண்டிலேயே விவசாய மற்றும் நீர்பாசன விதிமுறைகளை ஹிந்து பெரியோர்கள் கற்றுகொடுத்து இருக்கிறார்கள். அதற்க்கு Subak System என்று பெயர். இங்கே நீர் பாசனம் முழுவதும் கோவில் பூசாரிகளின் கட்டுபாட்டில் தான் இருக்கும். உலக வங்கியே Subak System பின் பற்றுமாறு மற்ற நாட்டினருக்கு அறிவுரை வழங்கி உள்ளது குறிப்பிட தக்கது. இந்தியர்கள் கொண்டு வந்த இந்த விஞ்ஞானம் இன்று இந்தியாவில் இல்லை.

9. பாலி ஹிந்துக்கள் பூஜை செய்யும் பொழுது பிரிண்ட் செய்யப்பட்ட புத்தகங்களை வாசிப்பது இல்லை. இன்றும் கூட அவர்கள் கையால் எழுதப்பட்ட ஓலை சுவடியையே (Lontar) பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள். ராமாணயம் அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்து இருக்கும்.ராமாணய ஓலைசுவடியை நல்ல நாட்களில் எடுத்து வரும் திருவிழா நடைபெறும்.

10. அனைத்து திருவிழாகளிலும் பாலி நடனம் ஆடுவார்கள், அதில் பெரும்பாலும் இராமாயண இதிகாசங்களை கதைகளாக சொல்வார்கள். ஹிந்துக்களின் சொர்க்க பூமி பாலி என்பதில் எந்த சந்தேகமும் இல்லை.

உலகின் அழகிய தீவுகளில் பாலி முக்கிய இடம் வகிக்கிறது. அழகிய இடங்கள், அமைதியான வாழ்க்கை முறை, பாரம்பரியமிக்க ஹிந்து கலாச்சாரம், நடனம், இசை என்று இந்த தீவு உலக சுற்றுலா பயணிகளை அதிகம் கவருவதில் ஆச்சிரியம் ஏதும் இல்லை
