Hi, My Ds is 4.5 months old and he is 5.9 KG. Doc says 6.2 is avg for his age and he seems to be okay. I keep goggling, but could not find a right chart for Indian babies. i end up feeling he is underweight seeing the US weight chart :spin. Just wanted to know what is the chart you mommies check/follow for Indian babies?
Sorry I dont know any indian charts..I have also seen only US charts..But as per my doctor normal(average) weight gain per month is 450gm-1kg and the weight should double the birth weight in 5th month(but read somewhere its in 6th month)..Check with your doctor if you feel something wrong...
@Nivee Your DS falls between the 5th and 10th percentile with respect to weight. This is according to the growth charts used by Indian doctors. He is not underweight. If he was in the same percentile from his birth then he is growing at the same pace. Your paed knows best and I am sure he would advice you if DS was underweight. Since I am in the US now, I check both US growth charts and India growth charts. According to US growth chart, my DD does not even come in the growth chart. But according to Indian growth charts, DD atleast comes in the growth chart.
Thanks Binz85 for your reply ... he gains around 450gm per month till now.. He has also doubled his bright weight ( 3 Kg) at 5 months). Doc says he is fine.. I was checking if somebody over here has a handy reference chart which i can refer myself time to time :thumbsup
thanks Ramya for the information. Could you please share the Indian growth chart you referred to get the percentile info ?
@nivee I check with the Pediatrics book used by doctors. Got the book from my sis who is a doc. Of course my sis thought I was crazy to actually read her entire book. A few days back I think I saw it online. But now am not able to find it. Shall keep searching for it.
