    Dear IL'ites,

Let's build a bucket list for Austin. What are the things to do before an Indian women/family leaves Austin?

Limit one idea per post. Give 1 or 2 line explanation as to why you thing it should be in the bucket list. That way, it encourages people to do it as well. It is much more interesting that way than a dry line item.

Let's see if we can do 100! Then we can say, "100 Things to do before you leave Austin!".

    Go!

    Hi Simi,

It's a great idea to build a bucket list. My idea#1 here -

Watch the "Story of Texas" movie in the Bob Bullock Museum. It is a wonderful 45 minute movie that I take every out of city visitor to. It does an excellent job of presenting the big highlights of living in Texas and also what makes Texans so special. It also has a lot of little known facts about Texas and the US. It's a must see.

    Hi Simi,

Just got to see this thread, it is a great idea to build a list like this. Will be helpful for the Austinite's here already as well as for those moving in or visiting.

My idea: Visit Mozart's Coffee on Lake Austin Blvd.

Absolutely the BEST place on town lake, very good atmosphere with nice viewing deck on the lake. Also, a best place for Coffee (hot or iced), Cappuccino, Tea and Desserts. There will also be live music in the evening. If you want a nice atmosphere to do some quite reading this is the place during weekend afternoons, there will only be university folks around.

Also, this place has festival lights during December. Perfect to take young kids, they have hot chocolate, marshmallows etc. all set-up and they will have lots of fun.

    Sonu,
Like the Story of Texas. We have watched it many times too taking visitors :)

    Regards,
    Roshni

    Idea#3 - UT Austin

Sometimes, we miss the most obvious stuff.

One Friday, we went to UT Austin, strolled around the campus area for a couple of hours. We walked through the campus streets seeing the various departments and buildings, which was a very enlightening experience.

We completely powered down and took the time to see the view from UT to Capitol building, which is so wonderful. But not many take the time to do it.

After doing that for a couple of hours, we had dinner in the Guadalupe road. With so much college students, the youthful energy was contagious. You should definitely do that to get the college town feeling that everyone raves about.

You don't want to live in Austin for 5 years and then say that you haven't been to UT Austin. That would be a sin!

Idea #4 - Bat watching under the Ann Richard's Congress Avenue Bridge

During summer nights, hundreds of people gather to see the world's largest urban bat colony emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in downtown Austin, Texas. There are about 1.5 million bats that emerge out that are fun to watch. They are Mexican free-tailed bats that migrate in Spring from Central Mexico and take seasonal residence below this bridge.
