    HI all,

Just thought of sharing my fights with atopic dermatitis on my new born son. I am sure there will be lots of parents having sleepless nights because of this chronic illness.
My son is one year old now. He started getting few rashes round his neck and in his genital areas when he was just 2 months old. We didnt had any idea about this disease then. We thought its because of the extreme heat in kerala and we started using home made coconut oil and other measures thinking they are heat rashes. It was got curing with this and started to spread to other body parts like hand joints, chest etc. We went to hospital here and the Dr suggested using creams and apply oil to keep the skin always moist. We started reseaching on this disease and we were very tensed as we read more and more. The Dr also suggested not to use any steroids as that may lead to asthma and other problems later.
We moved to my in laws house when my son completed 3 months and they were also sad to see the bad state of the boy. We went to see another Dr there and he suggested mild steroid and another cream. We tried the cream and I was very reluctant to use the steroid and the disease was getting worsened. We went to see Ayurveda and the Dr also suggested some oils. We tried all those and that too in vain. We tried homeopathy and couldnt get good results. I cried many times seeing his rashes and it started spreading to his cheeks. We tried restricting food like avoiding milk and he was strictly on my milk. He was not given any external food. But this was not getting controlled.

So when he was 7 months old, we decided to see a skin specialist near our house. He is a specialist for allergies. These are the things he said
    1) Dont allow baby to come in contact with dresses other than cotton. His bedsheets, dresses, towels, mydress even my dupatta have to be pure cotton. Dont use wool or any other material
2)Dont restrict on baby's food or my food. His stage needs food and I should also be able to provide him his needs. So restricting food is not an option
    3) Dont allow him to remain on too hot climate. Putting A/c is also not recommended since it can turn baby's skin more dry.
    4) He prescribed a corticosteroid Futibact on badly affected area. Just to apply for 2-3 days.
    4) He suggested not to use oil unlike all the other doctors instead suggested to use Venusia Moisturizing lotion by Dr Reddy's twice a day on whole body after bath.
    5) And to use diapers to the minimum.
We did as the doctor said. I changed completely to cotton and stopped using oil and started the lotion. After a week the rashes slowly started vanishing and we were happy to see that.
Now one year passed and by God's grace my baby has recovered 90% from his illenss. Rashes have disappeared. Some rashes appear when we use diaper during travel and all. But it disappears after 2 days. We are still using the Venusia lotion.

We thank God and the Dr.
I hope this article will be relief to parents like me.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi renjiniag

Thank you very much for your tips on atopic dermatitis. My son had this rashes too for a long time as he was a small child. We tried some of the tips you told above, like only using cottons.
I made good experience with some moistures, but with others it got worse. I talked about it on a german (for I am living there for 14 years) website with other people who suffered from atopic dermatitis (it's "Neurodermitis" in German by the way).
I got the information, that some moistures cause a problem for the skin, because it lets the skin stop producing lipides.
So I started to use special products which made the skin produce its own moisture. Some types of the atopic dermatitis were nearly healed, others could show o effect at all.
Since atopic dermatitis is a complex disease, there is no certain medicine, like antibiotics, which can hela it.

Your tips are extremely helpful anyway, because some of the symptoms of the disease are the main problem and will get better.

    Thank you very much! :thumbsup
