    Dear Chitra ma,

Iam one of ur great admirer ( silent). Though i have not participated much in IL i have inspired with ur cookery and religious forums.Hats off for the contribution u have made in IL.

Hope this is a start for my questions to follow !!!!

I could see IL'S discussing abt measuring cups with u in various post. Grateful if u could explain the same in detail. Is that for any particular type of cooking say baking ,sweets etc or can we use the same in our day to day cooking. If u have already given a detailed explanation on the same pls excuse and give us the link.

    Many Thanks in advance:bowdown

    Chithramma,

I'm mundiri kottai again to answer Brindha.

    Brindha,

I bought my measuring cup set (1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup and 1/4 cup) in Chennai for 20rupees 10 yrs ago. I initially thought i'll use them only for measuring cake ingredients. Because my feeling was for indian cooking we use azhaakku (it's like a tumbler) as measurement. But then i realised not all azhakkus have same volume. So these days for indian sweets also i use cup measurements. Until you get a hang of ingredients proportion even for regular cooking the cups are convenient. Chithramma uses the standard cup measurements and if you follow them exactly even the servings are accurate.

    Dear Brindhaa,
I will post the photos of my cup set this evening in Gadgets thread.
A cup measures 200cc by volume. For all my recipes, the same can be used. For some cake recipes, I give weight.
    Love,
    Chithra.

    Hi Chithu

Can baking recipes, esp. cakes, be made on normal microwave (without grill/ convection) ? If so, how should we calculate the time etc. ?

    thanks

Cakes can be baked "functionally" in a MW oven. Depending on the height, shape size etc the time varies from MW Hi 6-8 mts. Give a standing time of 10 mts in the MW itself.
    Love,
    Chithra.
