I've never used a rice cooker. How is it different from a slow cooker?

I'm trying to decide if I need one.

    TIA.

    very nice!
cake, soup, biryani, pongal and puttu all can be done.

one more use, it can replace microwave, which i usually use to warm food. With some water boiling in the pot we can keep our food to be warmed in a box for a while and food gets warm.

a decade back, when i moved to a new place i had no gas, only this rice cooker and i made full meals with this cooker. necessity makes you explore..what with two small kids to feed.

i have made rice, sambhar, rasam, bisibelelbath, pongal, payasam, boil milk, to even fry papads in the same. steam idlis, momos, left over rice everything.

you just need to be a little vigilant.

I prepare most of the north Indian dishes in it. I have tried mushroom methi mutter masala, stuffed baigan, veg makhani.

i cook upma, puloa pasta etc in a rice cooker. mostly when i am travelling and kids didnt eat outside food.in the hotel room i warm milk in the rice cooker. keep some water in it and a few glasses of milk.
make upuma( make upuma mix at home ) just add req amt of water to the mix in rice cooker and it is done in 20 mins.
same with pasta. add pasta sauce, pasta and little butter, seasonings like a one pot dish. it is convenient, healthy food ready in 30 mins. and it keeps food warm until 4 to 5 hrs.
    maggi noodles too.
