I have been taking only Metformin, 1000 mg twice a day. I have my annual visit coming up and I have to check my HbA1c again. Depending on the results I guess my doctor will advise on the medication. I have a hard time on Metformin itself. I have almost no appetite and constant stomach discomfort.
Exactly the same for me ..I have bad stomach discomfort, nausea and gut issues with metformin. I am taking 2000mg of metformin everyday for the last 8 months. I keep telling my Dr that it's giving me some discomfort and nausea. She just told me to change the timings of the medicine. i.e to take it in the afternoon and in the evening to avoid it. But that doesn't help and I have the bad side effects still. In addition to that, my Dr has given rybelsus. I started it last week. I feel so miserable and feels like I am on the first trimester. Feels nauseated all the time and been going to the toilet to gag and vomit. Didn't expect that this rybelsus will make me so miserable. I am taking only the trial pack of 3mg for 30 days. I have got the prescription filled for 7mg of rybelsus which needs to be taken only after trying the trail pack of 3mg for a month. I had a blood work at two different Dr offices last week(my PCP and rheumatologist). Hba1c came out as 7.8 and the next test showed up 7. So it's at 7 now. I am taking both rybelsus and metformin. I am feeling very tired and exhausted with this medicine. I just want to stop this rybelsus. I have to see the Dr for another blood work in the next 3 months to check hba1c again. I have had hyperemesis gravidarum during my pregnancy.this means severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. I had this until my 8th month. That was the worst time ever and I am completely on IV fluids which i will end throwing up in 3 minutes. I am feeling the same now with this rybelsus. I told my Dr and she prescribed me a medicine for nausea. Ondanstreon. I am yet to take this. Will try if this subsides the nausea a bit. Did you follow any diet or exercise to bring your hba1c down ?? Along with metformin, did you try anything else? I am trying to cut down the carbs completely and see if it helps. I do take rice everyday and am thinking if that could be the culprit too. My hba1c was elevated since August this year.
@gamma50g I am feeling exactly the same as you described. Feels like the first trimester. Nauseated all the time and exhausted. I am worried to continue this medicine. My Dr gave me a nausea medicine today to take it along. Yet to try that. My current hba1c is 7 as per latest blood work. Dr said it's very high with the amount of metformin I am taking. I take 1000mg twice a day. I also read about ozempic side effects and that sounds very scary. I have bad diarrhea, nausea and stomach pain. I am taking it only since last week. I am on a trial pack of rybelsus 3 mg for 30 days and real medicine of 7mg after that. How much is your hba1c now and are you in any medications now?
I went through similar side effects, constant nausea, exhaustion, stomach issues, and it was hard to know if it was the meds or just my body reacting to everything at once. The “first trimester” comparison is spot on. I’ve also been following a lot of the updates and concerns around this whole class of medications, especially with how harsh they can be on the gut. If anyone’s side effects ever cross into more serious territory, it might be worth knowing your rights too. This law firm has info on how to move forward if a medication ends up causing harm. Hope everyone here finds some relief soon, it’s rough managing this stuff while just trying to function day to day.
Hi..just saw this thread. My A1c is 6.9 I am taking 500 mg metmorfin .Dr prescribed 1000 mg . Cutting down on carbs.
Try plant based diet along with medication. Your doctor may tell you to reduce medication slowly. Look into Anthony williams diet. There is book Cleanse to heal. It helped me lot.
