    Hi friends,

Has anyone tried growing curry leaves in northeast of US?
I have been trying for a long time. It will be ok during the summer, but during the winter they loose all their leaves..and there after their growth is shunted.

I keep them in a sunny spot inside the house..but for some reason its just not working.
    Any suggestions pls

    Regards,
    Bindu

    Dear Bindu,

A lot of us living in the US grow curry leaves at home! Tulsi and curry patha plants are quite common as house plants along with the jasmines of all varieties!

I am in the east coast and I don't know how your weather is. You should not have problems even in winter. They may not thrive in the cold weather, but certainly wont die usually. There are exceptions ofcourse. Try to keep your plant grouped with your other indoor plants. The humid air will certainly help.

I just google to see if there were any tips to share with you and I found the below link quite good. I too shall follow the tips given there, thanks to you!

    L, Kamla

    confused,

I got saplings from a cousin and of the three only one survived. First winter there was no growth or very little growth. but the next year was good and added to tips given by Kamla what works for me is using some leaves every day from the bottom of the plant. I was surprised how much it spurred the growth on the top.

Kamla, thanks for that page - it is interesting to note the salt water and warm water tip!

    Hi kamala,

Thank you so much for that link. I am going to follow those suggestions and I hope I will have some homegrown curry leaves for my sambar. We do have a big kitchen garden.. now that the winter is over I am excieted to go out and get busy in the garden

I have big pots of tulsi and jasmine... no worries there. But curry leaves is a big issue with everyone here.winter can be harsh in ohio.

    Thanks again,
    Bindu

We do. We keep the plant next to a window and open the shades. It gets enough sun light.

Logee's Greenhouses sells them, though it is $12.95 for a small plant+shipping.
