    Hi all,
I am planning for my second child. Today i had an annual women exam with my obgyn. She said i need to reduce weight before I plan on TTC. I am 215lbs and 5'7". I am already following a low carb diet and some walking routine and lost few pounds. I still have to reduce a lot.

My obgyn recommended me to follow ketogenic diet. Anyone follows that diet? Please let me know how effective is that diet? Any inputs?
What is followed in that diet? Is it low carb diet?

    Thank you.

I know of people following the keto diet ..
It is a combo of high fats, medium protein and very low carb..

Are you in usa?coz I feel it is tough for Indians to constantly work with keto diet..
The diet by itself is not the problem but you can never have too much cheese and carbs together..

India diet has a healthy mixture of carbs, protein and fats..Going low carb is fine but with keto forget rice..

    Is the diet unhealthy?No.

    BUT..

Is THE DIET sustainable? Not for desis I feel..

    just my thoughts.

Thank you so much for your reply Suma..
My obgyn suggested this diet today to lose some weight.
I am just following no/very low carb diet now. Being a south indian,it really took a lot time to cut off rice..I am just avoiding rice and replace it with veggies nowadays.
Hope something work out for us soon. Good luck!!

    Hello,
As someone explained already Ketogenic diet is a combination of high fat moderate protein and very low carbs. Its very effective for Fat loss. I witnessed people loosing 6-7 Kgs in a month. Problem is its very hard to sustain this diet. I had lost around 20Kgs in last 1.5 years. I could not do Keto as it caused me severe consipation. You can loose weight by following a diet which has a good calorie deficit.
    Hope this helps!!
    Good luck.

Not just veggies but add good fats and protein and once in a while binge in rice as it helps rev up metabolism

    Two quick thoughts.
    (1) Tell your obgyn that you are considering this and ask for a referral to a nutritionist. Many hospital systems also offer free nutritional evaluation and counseling. If you want to try it, do it under supervision. Establish baseline parameters and get periodic follow-ups.
    (2) Are you vegetarian? A keto-vegetarian diet is somewhat harder, although it's been tried. Sort that out first.
