    Hi ladies,

I am pregnant ( 31 week) with Gestational diabetes. Now my blood sugar is very much under control but my BP seems to be on the lower end...this is making me all giddy most of the time. My doctor found that my calorie intake is very low, 1200 cal perday. She wants me to get that as high as 1900 cal.

Since we are vegetarians..i am struggling to get my calorie intake high, without raising my sugar. I do take milk, cheese, beans ,nuts during my snack time..but that doesnt seem to be enough to raise my calorie..

Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi anahita..
Thankyou for replying.. I try to eat most of those..but i guess i need to add avacado to my list. Now i have been trying something else... Eat snacks every hour and this way i am not very hungry for my big meal...thus my portion size is reduced and my sugar is well under control. Taking multiple snacks and keeping portion small...is helping me to get more calories without jeopardizing my sugar level :)

Thank you achu for replying.. I am not sure if we could make that change, but i am trying to find other options to increase my calorie intake. I already take soy, cheese, milk, greek yogurt, peanut butter , ghee ,graham crackers etc..

i was going to tell avocados, nuts. but somebody already suggested it. And you are already haviing greek yogurt, lentils etc . If your calorie intake is not sufficient with blood sugar control, i think dr suggest medicine/insulin for GD so that you can increase intake. right? Are you gaining weight normally?

Urad dal has a lot of calories. So you could soak and cook whole urad with veg or spinach or as a kichidi. Take care, dear

    Hi smilealways...
    Thanks for your response...

I am happy to say that my calorie intake has raised to 1600/ day...i need to increase that another 100 more,i think i can do it. My sugar level is very good ...its always between 100 and 105 ..2 hrs after meal since i started dieting. I hope i gained some weight too.

    Thank you once again

Make sure you raise calories consuming healthy foods. During snack time, try taking pulses (channa/moong/cow peas). In case you have digestion problem, include little ginger and garlic with pulses.
