Recently in Viketan i read a story and about the Srivilliputur Andal temple.. I was fascinated.. here is my contribution

Prayer commitments:

Offering butter to the Lord, clothes, small lamps, Tulsi, flowers are offered to Lord. Nivedhanas offered to Lord is distributed among the visitors. Feeding is also undertaken.

Other holy springs in the temple are nine in total including Thirumukkulam, Kannadi theertham

Speciality:

Vadabadrasayee Rangamannar. He is in a lying pose in the main shrine under Vimalakruthi Vimanam Vadavriksha accompanied by Sridevi Bhudevi massaging his lotus feet. Beautiful paintings on the wall on the three sides are Garuda, Senaimudaliar, Surya, Thumburu Narada, Brahmma on the naval chord of the Lord, Sanaka Rishi, Gandharvas, Moon, Madhukaidabas, Rishi Bruhu, Markandeya, Sword, club, Conch and the Wheel are beautifully sculpted on the three sides of the shrine of Vadabadrasayee. There is also an entrance facility in the Vimana to come around through which the devotee can have the dharshan of the head and feet of the Lord. This entrance would be opened a day before the Margazhi (December-January) festival.



General Information:

Srivilliputhur is 50 Km from Virudhunagar, 8 from Sattur, 32 from Aruppukottai, 82 from Tirunelveli, 90 from Madurai. There are lodges in the place the charges ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 300.

Sufficient bus facilities are available from Madurai, Tirunelveli and Virudunagar to Srivillipthur. Railway station is Srivilliputhur and the airport nearby is Madurai. The temple administration can be contacted on telephone 04563 – 260254.

Festivals:

10 day Adipooram festival (July-August), Peria Perumal 10 day festival in Purattasi (September-October), Kayana (Wedding) festival 10 days in Panguni (March-April) are the important festivals in the temple. Special pujas are performed on Deepavali, Pongal, New years of both Tamil and English first days,

History:

Sri Andal had the habit of wearing the garlands prepared for Rangamannar and look at the mirror to ascertain herself whether she would be a good match to Lord Rangamannar. Her father Perialwar without knowing this, used to take the garland for the Lord each day. A hair was found one day. Perialwar was upset and begged the pardon of the Lord but the Lord told him that he was very fond of that Garland and asked to bring the garland the same way each day. Andal also was not willing to marry a human and was waiting for the Lord to have her hand in wedlock. The lord directed Perialwar to bring Andal in a Palanquin to Srirangam where he would marry her. Andal reached Srirangam and mingled with the Lord. The Lord gave darshan to Perialwar along with Andal. Srivilliputhur is one of the celebrated Divyadesas for the Vaishnava devotees.

Betal Leaf Parrot - very rare to get one

கிளி சொன்னதைச் சொல்லும் தன்மையுடையது. ஆண்டாள், கண்ணனை மணக்க விரும்பிய தகவலை சொல்வதற்காக கிளியை தூது அனுப்பினாளாம். ஆகவே, ஆண்டாள் திருமணத்திற்கு உதவியதற்கு மரியாதை செய்யும் விதமாக கிளியை தன் இடக்கையில் வைத்திருக்கிறாள். வியாசரின் மகனாகிய, சுகப்பிரம்மரிஷியே ஆண்டாள் கையில் கிளியாக இருப்பதாகவும் சொல்வதுண்டு. புத்திசாலியான பெண் குழந்தை வேண்டுமா? ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூரில் பிறந்த பெரியாழ்வார், லட்சுமி நாராயணரை தன் குலதெய்வமாக வழிபட்டார். இவர் வழிபட்ட நாராயணர், ஆண்டாள் கோயில் முதல் பிரகாரத்தில் வடக்கு நோக்கியிருக்கிறார். தன் இடது மடியில் லட்சுமியை அமர வைத்தபடி இருக்கும் இவர், சுதை சிற்பமாக இருக்கிறார். எனவே, இவருக்கு அபிஷேகம் கிடையாது. பல வர்ணங்களுடன் இருப்பதால் இவரை, 'வர்ணகலாபேரர்' என அழைக்கின்றனர். இவரது சந்நிதி, மரப்பலகைகளால் அமைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பது வித்தியாசமான அம்சம். இவரிடம் வேண்டிக்கொண்டால் ஆண்டாள் போலவே பக்தியும் அறிவார்ந்த திறனும் கொண்ட பெண் குழந்தைகள் பிறக்கும். குடும்பத்தில் ஐஸ்வர்யம் பெருகும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை. லட்சுமிநாராயணர் உற்சவர், ஆண்டாள் கோயில் கருவறைக்குள் வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறார். இவரை சாதாரண நாட்களில் தரிசிக்க முடியாது.

கிளி செய்யும் முறை:

இத்தலத்தில் ஆண்டாள் கையில் வைப்பதற்காக தினமும் இலைகளால் கிளி செய்யப்படுகிறது. மாலையில் சாயரட்சை பூஜையின்போது இந்த கிளி ஆண்டாளுக்கு வைக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆண்டாள் மறுநாள் காலை வரையில் கையில் கிளியுடன் இருக்கிறாள். பின், இந்த கிளி பக்தர்களுக்கு கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. இதனை மரவள்ளிக்கிழங்கு இலையை உடல் பகுதியாகவும், மாதுளம் பிஞ்சினை அலகு, இலையை இறகு, காக்காப்பொன் கண்ணாகவும் வைத்து, வாழை நாரில் இணைத்து செய்யப்படுகிறது.

கீர்த்தி தரும் ஆண்டாள்:

ஸ்ரீவில்லிப்புத்தூரில் ஆண்டாள் கிழக்கு நோக்கி தனிச்சன்னதியில் அருளுகிறாள். கிழக்கு நோக்கியிருக்கும் பெண் தெய்வங்களை வழிபட்டால் கீர்த்தி உண்டாகும் என்பர். எனவே, இவளிடம் வேண்டிக்கொள்பவை அனைத்தும் நடக்கும் என்பர்.

 

This parrot is made of special leaves every day and presented to the Presiding Deity , Andal at Srivilliputtur.

In Srivilliputtur, a parrot is made every day with leaves and kept In the left hand of goddess Andal. At the end of the day, It is given to devotees who believed it would bring good luck to them.

‘ Kili viDu Thuthu’ is a genre in Tamil. The meaning is sending parrot as a messenger to a loveror beloved. Andal is said to have sent the parrot to Lord Vishnu to give the message of her love. More over wherever parrot is there it is velieved Sukhabrahmam is repeating the mythologies.

Significance of parrots in Vedas and Gods hands/shoulders. The message is, repetition of good things, is essential. Taitriya Upanishad is a beautiful Upanishad with instructions for students, saints as well as laymen. Be a parrot and repeat God’s names or good principles!
