I have always used Indian store Basmati rice for my Biryanis. However I am looking for alternative long grained rice in American store . Please recommend the brand if you have used any long grained rice . I am cooking for 100 people and don't want to go wrong obviously : ) Thank you Ilites.
I have not really found a good substitute for basmati rice in regular stores. Costco sells bags of basmati rice if cost is a concern.
Just for convenience sake and to avoid going to Indian stores as its quite far away from where I live. Takes few hours To and Fro. Thanks for your recommendation : )
Sona masoori cooks very differently from basmati. If you are making pulao, biryani etc it will not be the same. BJs should have basmati too.
Go with Basmati only. It cooks very easy and not easy screw up. All other rice, cook differently and because we can't tell if they aged or not- they sometimes come out in porridge. Since, you are cooking for 100, I am guessing some occasion or catering and you are invested in it, do not cook with any else but basmati.
Yes thank you . Not a great fan of sonamaaoori for fried rice . This is for a potluck with friends in our community .
