    It's a fast from sunrise to moonrise - some fast even before and the fast is broken after the moon rises. You pray for your being a Sumangali/Saubhagyavati - it's a penance to bless your husband with a long, healthy and happy life.

    Procedure for Karva Chauth

    I just would like to make sure of the procedure for karva chauth!

    Wake up take a shower and have food and the last item of food to have is the faniya (vermacilli) all before sunrise.

    Do prey in the evening time and listen to the katha!

    What i get stuck on is what the procedure is when the moon comes out! Do you have to have a thali ready and what is in the thali and when is this prepared?

    You have to make a diva as well don't you?

    Also is anything given to the mother in law and so on!

    From what i have heard when you listen to the katha you have to put your finger through rice and move it around, is that true and what do you do with the rice afterwards?

    I am living with my in laws and don't have any else near by who keeps its, so will be on my own!

    :)Hi Preeti,

    FIrst thing is you have to finish Sargi that is eating your food before the sun rises early morning like 4 0r 5 am...

    you have to use the same kalash for moon which u used while lisening t katha and some sugar rice and Diva in your thali....
    ask me if u wanna know anything.
