I don't know about cod oil. I give my son flax seed oil which is a vegtarian substitute for cod oil. I started giving him flax seed oil when he was as young as 8 months or so. It has all the benefits of cod oil. Probably, you could just get the pediatrician's permission before you start with flax seed or cod oil.

Cod liver oil is great for children, especially for those with dry skin.

We use Green Pastures Blue Ice Brand. It's a bit pricey though, but we only give 1/4 of a teaspoon.

It does contain naturally occuring Vit D and A, so you want to make sure you don't give too much. I usually give less in the summer ( only a couple times per week v/s everyday in winter), because my kids play a lot outdoors and get a good amount of Vit D that way too.

In case your not able to find that brand, I would suggest trying to find one that has naturally occuring Vit. A and D rather than one that is chemically added.
