He was one of those comedians where you would start to laugh just looking at his face.
Oh my God! I cannot believe this! Such a sad news.

The actor was administered his first dose of Covaxin vaccine on Thursday, sparking speculation about whether he had suffered from an adverse reaction of the vaccine. However, the hospital dismissed the claim, saying his condition was a separate cardiac event. “This is an acute coronary syndrome with cardiogenic shock,” the SIMS hospital said. “It may not be due to Covid-19 vaccination.”

The 59-year-old actor opted to get his vaccination from a public hospital in Tamil Nadu, in a bid to encourage others to get themselves inoculated against Covid-19. “The government hospitals provide healthcare services to the majority of poor people,” he had said on Thursday. “Many have doubts about vaccination and its side effects. There are also several rumours doing the rounds. I want to put an end to all the rumours. I want to show people that there is no danger in getting vaccinated.”

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan, who met the medical team attending Vivekh on Friday, too said there was no connection between the actor’s health and the vaccine. “Usually, a vaccine reaction occurs within 15 to 30 minutes,” Radhakrishnan said, according to PTI. “Such is not his case.”​

Naturally one would google to see how this has been in the filmi world in general, in pre Covid times. Apparently, there is plenty of heart-attacks (cardiac arrests) in India, and filmi industry is no exception: Inder Kumar dies at 44 due to cardiac arrest. RIP, very sad news.

 

This health secretary has absolutely no medical qualifications in human sciences. He is an IAS officer with veterinary science background. All one needs to hold such posts for long time is to be politically supportive to the ruling parties.
To be honest any person wouldn’t brush such serious consequences under the carpet without further investigation. One ought to suspect links. Only serious allergic reactions can happen within the timeframe he has mentioned. But clotting risks have happened after few days and weeks of vaccinations. So we cannot just say not related at all. Needs further investigations and report. Only because Vivek being a hero have we been able to see this news. If it happened to any common man nothing would come to light.
If the same situation had happened overseas they would advice to wait until further investigations and not just throw it out. That’s how J and J vaccine and AstraZeneca vaccine advice had been changing.
Vivek had covaxin and I read this report recently.

My SiL had the Covaxin shot two weeks ago. She is a retired senior. So far she hasn't had any of those Thrombosis related side effects. Fingers crossed.

 

That’s good.

That doesn’t mean everyone will react the same way. If complications arise they have to investigate. That will improve the vaccine advice about whom to give, which age group should we avoid. AstraZeneca vaccine advice kept on changing due to this exact reason because health regulators did not brush the consequences of the clotting risks though extremely rare happened after vaccinations. The European regulators changed their age criteria due to this. Whether the risk in extremely rare or not people should be advised and they should be able to do informed consent based on their risks. It’s not like one shoe fits all.

If there had been clotting risks due to AstraZeneca the same would be expected from Covishield but as far as I know or read I haven’t come across any such news in India except some personal experiences which have been shared by some in other forums. Even deaths have occurred but nothing have been on news. Life as a common man has very limited values it seems for the media and death after vaccinations for the common man is not news at all. No news will publish it for a common man and no medical official will relate it to vaccinations for fear of repercussions from the politicians in India. They haven’t even mentioned anything about the age restrictions where the complications seem to be high. Do they expect all to believe that this covishield by some miracle is so different to the AstraZeneca produced in Europe? Transparency is what is lacking here in India.

Vivek who had tried to promote the vaccine and had been on news had heart attack within 24 hours and no one should in their right mind should dismiss it and most of all such brushing off comments shouldn’t come out of a health secretary! I now wonder why they have a put a veterinary doctor for health secretary. Are they so much in lack of qualified doctors or health related officers to hold such a position? Hm, utterly distressing is all the news.
