    Hello ladies,
There is a potential move on cards from Dubai to Doha, and we are looking for a unfurnished (with AC) or semi furnished 3 BR villa/duplex/apartment in a compound like setup, where we have a pool and a safe play area, as we have a 2 yr old son and we are expecting another child shortly. Which areas should we be looking at?
If husband takes up the offer, his office will be in West Bay near Sheraton. How is the traffic situation during peak hours? He is more inclined to get a place near to schools as he says he doesn't mind to be in traffic for an hour but he wants kids to be at home asap.

Any other suggestion or tips are most welcome!

    Thanks in advance,
    P!

    Hi Prerna,

Glad to know that you may come to Doha. If your hubby's office is in West Bay, then you may look either in West bay or Pearl Qatar. In West Bay, there are lot of apartments. But, if you need a compound like setup you could prefer Pearl Qatar, which is little close by but a bit expensive. There are lot of nurseries in West Bay but for schools you need to choose somewhere else. And traffic is high during peak hours, but it will not take more than a hour from anywhere inside the city.

You can first think of the school, where you will put your son. Then you could decide on the place.

Thank you Sharmila for your reply! Pearl Qatar is quite out of budget, to be frank. Our son will start school only in 2014 so this is quite early to decide on schools to be honest! But we would prefer areas around schools so we don't have to shift again next year.

Could you or anybody else please suggest the areas we should be looking at for compounds? what would be the budget for a 3 BHK apartment in a compound? is 7000 Riyal pm a practical figure?

    TIA!

You may get 3BHK for around 7000 Riyal per month. In Ezdan, you could get 2 BHK appartments for around 5500 Riyal. To know more about Ezdan check this link - Ezdan Real Estate Company. These are compounded apartments but don't have pool or play area. You have to use the nearby park.

We stay in a compounded 1BHK villa that has a swimming pool but no play area. It costs us 5000 Riyal pm. Since you are planning to put your son in school only in 2014, you can now move to an accommodation in the centre of the city. Later you can switch over after deciding the school for your son. As these are furnished apartments, you need not worry much on shifting.

    hello sharmila,
If I may ask, where do you stay? I checked Ezdan on google map, thanks for the link!
We are in a fix regarding the furnished/unfurnished house. We are getting relocation allowance so we were planning of shipping our furniture from here, our son sleeps in his toddler bed in his room, and we are expecting our second baby in another couple of weeks. We are not interested in taking up a furnished house. Also i saw the difference in rent is about 2k pm for a semi/full furnished house. iNow, this is totally based on internet research. Is that correct?

What about abu hamour, ein khalid, ring road areas? Are medium sized villas available in these areas? We could consider increasing our budget if we find a nice, decent house in a kid friendly location.

    Thanks and regards,
    presam!

    Prerna,Welcome to IL !

To be honest,Doha is a very small place and going from one end to another end should not take much time. But the traffuc is really horrible in peak hours and corniche road will be in itz max vol.If you are staying in this part of the city say Abu Hamour,AIn Khaled area (for that matter many areas) you have to cross corniche road and Abu Hamour area is being beautified now .Hence the area is quiet a bit congested but it is a lovely residential area.It is near to Indian Schools.

Quit o few of my friends stay there. They pay 7500 QRs for 2 BHK unfurnished apt in a compound which consists of whatever you asked for.Not sure of 3BHK.Can check for you once they are back from vacation.

BTW,check Qatarliving and qatarcl for rental prperties.

    Hi Prerna,

We stay in Al Nassr which is close to Al Sadd. I work in West Bay and it takes me 25 to 30 mins in the morning and 15 mins in the evening (Since I leave by 3.30 from office). I start around 7.15 in the morning and traffic will be high near Corniche. If your husband's office timings are still late, then the traffic will be much more high.

Bhuvana has already given you a clear picture of other areas. Abu Hamour is a good place but 2BHK costs around 7000 Riyal there. One of our friends stay in Abu Hamour and pay 7000 for a 2 BHK compound villa. Hope this helps you!

3BHK costs 8500-9000Qrs in the same compound depending on the size of the apt it seems.
