Hi everyone , hope you all are doing good .
I have one urgent question which needs your help soon please . During my last visit to india I opened a bank account for myself and after i started working here i sent a few thousand rs. to that account . The atm card is with my father back in india for use if needed. The passbook is with me here . I dont have the internet banking details for it with me . Now with the new law of linking aadhar card with the bank account to keep it functional . I did apply for the aadhar card but the address at which it got sent was the one on my passport where I do not live so i did not receive it . I could not update the address of my fathers home as i did not have any documents on my name for that address . However they sent it online too apparently but i am not able to access it somehow.
Now being here how can i find out my aadhar card number online. its really important for me to keep it active so that i have one account to save money for my india expenses and the deadline is nearing too. Am trying to find out information about it but could not find any . Who do i contact and how do i go about it . Please let me know about it . It will be a big help . Thank you.

Hey, are you Indian Resident (per Income Tax Act individuals residing 182 days or more in India in preceding year are considered residents)? Only Residents per this definition can get aadhar.. Looks like you gave Indian address, but physical presence in India is required too.

An extract from a relevant article..

Can an NRI hold an Aadhaar card?
It is further clarified that only those who have resided in India for 182 days are considered Indian residents. This is immediately preceding the application date for government documents such as the Aadhaar. And only a resident individual is allowed to obtain an Aadhaar card.

Dear @Naari , thank you very much for replying. I am going through all these articles which say 180 days stay is needed.
I am here on H4 ead. I am an Indian citizen . I actually got the aadhaar card but it is missed because it was sent to the address I was not residing. I also got that email from uidai which has a PDF with password. I read the online forums where they say that the password is zipcode but it doesn't work . I guess when we one that pdf it shows up the aadhaar number online.
My only concern is to keep the account active , that's why this aadhaar number hurries .
One more question, in case this account closes because of this aadhaar number issue , can I still keep sending money to my father's account using online money remittance websites like I do now . His account is linked to the UID. If that can continue, its still fine with me.
    Thank you very much dear.

:hello:there will be many Indian origin/ immigrants in your geography would be sailing in the same boat. please check up with your Indian pals living at close proximity..the correct approach to resolve this matter is, for you to approach nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate depending upon the geography you are in. your efforts by communication in this regard with AADHAAR officials MAY NOT YIELD DESIRED RESULTS in quick time. Thank you. god Bless Us All. Regards. Happy Deepavali.

thank you @Thyagarajan for your reply . I will try to approach embassy for it . as for reaching out to fellow people in the area , i dont have a lot of friends here and a few I talk to are U.S citizens with no need for indian bank accounts . so they have no idea about it. Tried calling the number @1947(i dont remember it on the top of my head right now) . But could not get through .
    Thank you.

CIB - Why don’t you convert your resident accounts to NRE and apply for aadhar when you actually move back. Even if you are a citizen, NRIs don’t need the aadhar card as of now. The next trip is a very good time to change your bank account statuses. All you need is a valid visa and an address in the country of residence to get that done. Better convert accounts to NRE and avoid the aadhar linking issue.

Hey @Laks09 I am planning to do the same. But apparently Indian savings (savings out of Indian earnings) cannot be converted to NRE account, but only to NRO a/c. NRE is preferable since interest on that is tax free, whereas int on NRO is taxable at 30% or so. Any CAs here who can clarify if there is any way out? I have a feeling there is a way, possibly a grey area.

have you tried retrieval of e adhaar. you get a otp on your regd mobile with which you can download your adhaar card.

the call centre of adhaar uidai is very efficient call them to help out if you have a adhaar retrieval is easy. you can go for change of address latee.

nri’s were also asked to get adhar last yr. and the local embassy helped out though i dont have details

aadhaar is just a national ID card. anyone who resides in india as an expat can get too.

pio's, nri's can get too if they have an indian address proof.

e-retrieval is possible if you can receive the otp to the mobile number given at the time of registration.
