I never read emotional stories, because it's takes me days to come out of it, especially when I have busy family to run, I really can't afford my time over it. But this novel , a thousand splendid sun, despite being one, I'm glad I read it.
I've never imaginedhow difficult life is for women on the other side of the world, especially during war. The lead character is Mariam , a girl with a thousand dreams, her transition from a girl, wife and finally a mother to her husband's wife(I know this sounds weird, but when you read it, you'll understand .
Mariam, I dreamt with you, laughed with you , cried with you, I know it's a work of fiction, but somehow couldn't get you out of th picture .
A big salute to all the women who endure a life like her, living in a country, where you absolutely have no control over your life.
I strongly urge you to read this novel, it might change the way you see things and get a very different perspective of life , then on.

Fab book- so full of hope and life amidst all the bleakness. I wished I could go and Mariam a hug - great characters. Very good read

AGreed with all the people on this thread. This is a great book once again churned out by Khalen Housseini. He manages to paint a ray of sunshine amid so much turmoil and blight in the world. Characters are well developed and make you feel for them. Fantastic read indeed. Highly recommended.

It was a great book. We know so little about women in other countries. I was really emotional while reading this book. When I think of this book I can feel anger for the way women are treated and the helpless situation they are in.

Its a very nice Novel. I thought iam the only one living the life of fictional character when reading... :)

you should also try : The kite runner : same author, 1st book.
You will discover how wonderfully love can so selfless be extended...to the extremes of it.

I remeber i was in colg when it came, i literally had to stop reading for a while, cried a bucket....wiped tears...opened the book again..!
