A MATTER OF HEIGHT-DOES IT MATTER?

One of the hottest topics discussed in the upcoming US Presidential debate is the height of the Presidential nominees.Donald Trump at 190 cms is the third tallest President after Abraham Lincoln and Lynden Johnson. Height has been a hot topic when it comes to leadership particularly US Presidents , History shows taller men winning barring a few exceptions. Trump insisted that no artificial lifts be permitted in the debate held this morning between him and Kamala Harris. There was also a photograph of Trump standing behind Hillary Clinton and towering over her in the 2016 presidential election.Trump's speeches belie the perception that height equates to power, authority and dominance not to speak of intellect and integrity,an integral part of effective leadership. On the other hand, Abraham Lincoln, standing at 6'4", was one of the tallest U.S. Presidents. His height contributed to his imposing presence, which complemented his ability to lead during one of the most turbulent times in American history. Similarly Fraklin Roosvelt played a historic role in World war 2

In the Indian context Shri.Lal bahadur shastri was short but tall in stature.Standing beside Ayub Khan after the agreement he evoked laughter inspite of the fact that his bold decision brought Pakistan to its knees. This also revealed the darker side of Indian mind set.Closer home at 157 cm I have never faced problem with my height and had a highly successful career.I had 6 feet plus colleague and both of us were called the long and short of the organisational success. When Mythili at150 cm sought my help in taking something out of the kitchen cupboard I attained Viswaroopam evoking uncontrollable laughter. Ultimately a persons stature is measured from above the neck and not from below the waist.

A good read. I enjoyed reading this timely write-up.
I used to avoid standing close to tall persons to kill the dwarf feeling. Tendulkar was thought a miniscule in front of aussie Dennis Lilly. But tendulkar was at ease - did face mighty bowlers and lofted their pace into a glorious six or and reach a boundary with one bounce. But generally spouse likes men of wide girth and tall. Tall with short reminds me of tall politicians like Egypt Anwar Sadat and others. Kamaraj too was tall compared to others in then congress. Jaya bhaduri & amitabh cross the mind. I agree that tallness measured above the neck and below the waist matters. Among the worshippers of Gods or Godesses in Hindu pantheon, devotees love to construct huge idols of their favourite. That includes even the preceptor Ramanuja.

    Dear SLN Sir,

The height and weight are sensitive issues anywhere in the world, particularly in the US. In matrimony, the women who are dating in the US, they always check the height of the man they seek besides his educational background and wealth. They check his previous relationships, children, etc. only later.

Trump blamed the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis for using a lift in his shoes to show him a little higher during Republican debates. But asking Kamala Harris to wear a normal shoe as opposed to high-heal shoe is a bit of a stress. Every woman wears high-heal shoes in the US nowadays. Abraham Lincoln was 6' 4", JFK 6' 1", Ronald Reagan 6' 1", Obama 6' 2", Clinton 6' 2", George W Bush 6' 0", and the first President George Washingon 6' 2". May be Americans are obssessed with the height of the President and I wish they focus more on their health too. Kamala is only 5' 4" only when compared to Trump's height which was a secret until he was booked in Georgia County Jain with 6' 2".

    Dear Viswa,
Thanks for enlightening me on the height of many successful American presidents.Indian leaders competed on the waist line though of late there is heightened consciousness on the waist factor. Tall, dark and handsome-the description of the hero in many romantic novels is the villain of the piece. They have the advantage of looking down upon the shorter variety. To make up many shorter men sport a trendy beard.
    Regards-SLN
