This book was published during the pandemic (2020). After reading some reviews, I had decided not to buy this book. When a senior colleague (Chandramauliswaran) suggested a mutual friend may consider reading and reviewing this book, based on the impression I got from initial reviews in the media, I discouraged the idea. I didn't want our octogenarian friend to get depressed by laments on fear of the inevitable.
But all the reviews of this book, as most of the book reviews we get to read, were misleading. Yesterday I received my copy of the book from Amazon. Priced 799, the hard cover book elegantly brought out by Penguin /VIKING is a real sumptuous treat in 516 plus xi pages for anyone wanting to know the reality of life If one is interested in reading only a good review, borrow the book from a friend or a library and read pages 1 to 9. Arun Shourie gives a beautiful introduction to what he wants to convey through the book to the reader.
Let me read and try to understand the contents. Will the book change my own perceptions about life and death ? Not sure.
After middle age when I wished to retire at 50 and gave me 20 more years of active life, my arithmetic has gone wrong. I retired at 60 and 22 years of active post-retirement life got over last year.
YAMA is the reverse of MAYA. Maya or Life disappears with Yama's entry. We experience death every time we go into deep sleep without the help of drugs.
This is, in brief my perception about life and death. I'm sure I'll know more on the subject as I read this book in the coming days.

Yes, a book on Death is not a very welcome interest for most. Similarly, I had my own doubts. However came across the book!DEATH" by Sadhguru and read it with interest . Found it to be a very practical approach . However, there were many parts of it that i felt needed to be read again to grasp the full meaning. Its more than a year since i have read it. Aiming to take it up once more to get a better understanding. As Sadhguru says, there is nothing morbid about death, it is just another part of our journey . Looking forward to your views after reading your book.
