156. ஒறுத்தார்க்கு ஒருநாளை இன்பம்; பொறுத்தார்க்குப்
பொன்றும் துணையும் புகழ்.
Oruthaarkku orunaalai inbam; poruthaarkku
ponrum thunaiyum pugazh.

பழிக்குப் பழி வாங்குபவர்க்கு ஒரு நாள் இன்பம். ஆனால் பொறுத்தவர்க்கு வாழ் நாள் முழுவதும் புகழ் உண்டாம்.
The joy of revenge lasts for a day, but those who forgive enjoy the fruits of it forever.

157. திறனல்ல தன்பிறர் செய்யினும் நோநொந்து
அறனல்ல செய்யாமை நன்று.
Thiranalla thanpirar seyyinum nonondhu
aranalla seyyaamai nanru.

பிறர் நமக்கு செய்த தகுதில்லாத காரியங்களுக்காக வருந்தின போதிலும், அதே போல், நாம்,அவர்களுக்கு அறம் இல்லாதவற்றை செய்யாமல் இருப்பது நல்லது.
However great the harm done to you maybe,better not to take it to your heart and abstain from revenge.

158. மிகுதியான் மிக்கவை செய்தாரைத் தாம்தம்
தகுதியான் வென்று விடல்.
Migudhiyaan mikkavai seidhaarai thaamtham
thagudhiyaan vendru vidal.

செருக்கினால், ஒருவர் தீங்கு இழைப்பாரேயானால் அவரை பொறுமையால் வென்று விட வேண்டும்.
Conquer those persons (who inflict injury upon you through their pride), by patience.

159. துறந்தாரின் தூய்மை உடையர் இறந்தார்வாய்
இன்னாச்சொல் நோற்கிற் பவர்.
Thurandhaarin thooimai udaiyar irandhaarvaai
innaachol norkir bhavar.

வரம்பு கடந்து நடப்பவரின் சொற்களைப் பொறுமையுடன் பொறுத்துக் கொள்பவர்,
தூய்மையானத் துறவிகளைப் போன்றவர் ஆவர்.
Those who bear with the uncourteous speech of the insolent are pure as the ascetics.

160. உண்ணாது நோற்பார் பெரியர்; பிறர்சொல்லும்
இன்னாச்சொல் நோற்பாரின் பின்.
Unnaadhu norpaar periyar; pirarsollum
innaachol norpaarin pin.

உண்ணா நோன்பு இருப்பவர்கள், கடும்சொற்க்களைத் தாங்குபவர்க்கு அடுத்ததாகப்
போற்றப்படுவர்.
Those who do fasting are great, but they are only next to those who forgive the uncourteous speech of others.
